Late April
The first week with Margaret was exactly as chaotic as predicted.
Day three, I woke up at 6 AM to find her reorganizing our entire kitchen.
"What are you doing?" I asked, bleary-eyed and confused.
"Making coffee. But I couldn't find the filters, and then I noticed the spices weren't alphabetized, and" She looked at the mess she'd created, pots and pans everywhere.
"I'm sorry. I couldn't sleep. I'm used to being up early, and I needed something to do."
"It's fine. Just… maybe warn us before you reorganize our entire life?"
"Right. Yes. I'm sorry." She looked genuinely distressed. "I'm still figuring out how to exist in normal spaces."
I helped her clean up the kitchen chaos, and we made coffee together in silence. It was awkward but not hostile. Progress, I supposed.
Day five, Maya and Margaret got into their first fight.
"I don't need you checking my homework!" Maya shouted from her room. "Kai and Aria already do that!"
