Reynold was already inside his room. His backpack was on the bed. He unzipped it open and reached inside the bag.
The old map came out. It was still folded. He turned it over as he stare at before before he set it aside on the bed.
His hand went back inside the bag and came out with a small journal. The cover was thick brown leather. He took it from his father's study in the old Starweaver mansion.
Reynold opened the first page again.
Almost every word was written in Valdris Old language. The only clear English words were the date: May 25.
He stared at the strange symbols for a long moment, then sighed as he closed the journal and dropped it on the bed next to the map.
His hand dipped into the backpack again. This time he pulled out a small glass jar filled with ripe strawberries. The fruit was Gwyn's favorite. He had brought them for her.
