Chapter 10 - Eyes Open — Dual Bloodlines!

Konoha — before Nawaki's grave.

"Brat!"

Under Tsunade's frown, Uchiha Ye trembled all over as black, flame-like seal patterns spread from his neck.

When he deliberately activated that sennin–seal in his body, an endless wave of negative emotions swept over him. His eyes filled with bloodshot veins, and his heart overflowed with killing intent.

"Not good!"

At that moment, Tsunade finally noticed something was wrong — this boy had awakened some power, and it didn't look like the Sharingan.

Ye gave a low groan of pain. Seeing Tsunade standing before him, he steeled himself and loosened the shackles that the sennin-seal had placed on his body.

A rare opportunity — and the person in front of him was the world's top medical-nin.

A shinobi must be ruthless when necessary.

"What is that!?"

Under Tsunade's mastery of medical techniques, she instantly perceived Ye's internal condition and was shocked.

"He's awakened some kind of power that's causing a backlash — isn't this boy an Uchiha!?"

The force that had awakened wasn't the Sharingan at first — it was another power entirely.

"No—"

"Tsuna—Tsunade Captain, Uchiha Ye requests deployment to the frontlines!"

Through the pain, Ye forced out hoarsely, veins bulging at his temples and neck as the backlash and the flood of negative emotions attacked him. Under Tsunade's astonished gaze, the bloodshot eyes began to reveal a single dark tomoe.

The Sharingan had awakened!

Was it because of Nawaki's death and the pain between the village and the clan!?

"Shut up.

Tsunade snorted and grabbed him, dragging him away from the memorial stone.

Senju Compound.

When he opened his eyes again, he found himself lying in a room full of medical instruments. Drip tubes were inserted into his hand; a bag of fluid ticked as it dripped. A sudden burst of pain shot through him when he tried to speak.

"Where… am I?"

Every cell seemed to throb with ache.

"Well, looks like you didn't die after all," Tsunade said, lifting her head from a table strewn with scrolls and giving a short snort.

"What's happening to me?" Ye put on a face of confusion, but Tsunade only snorted.

"You brat, count yourself lucky. You've awakened two bloodline abilities at once."

Two bloodlines awakened!

To an ordinary shinobi, that might sound impossible, but Tsunade's experience told her the ninja world is vast — rare things happen.

"Bloodlines?" Ye's expression turned complicated as realization began to dawn.

Tsunade grew more irritated — this stubborn brat had actually been provoked into awakening bloodlines, and two at that. Her own brother was dead, yet this outsider got stimulated into opening his eyes? Ridiculous — and very Uchiha.

"Listen," Tsunade continued in a clinical tone. "Every bloodline family has rare rejection effects. It's called bloodline sickness. Often, it's caused by overusing or exhausting the kekkei — over time, it inflicts irreversible damage. There's another type caused by congenital incompatibility."

As she spoke, a scientist's curiosity gleamed in her eyes; for a medical-nin, this was priceless material.

"And you, brat, your brain's a mess — you simultaneously awakened two bloodlines, causing severe incompatibility."

She glanced at his IV and snorted. "Across the ninja world, there are only a handful who can make gene-stabilizing reagents. Each vial is worth a fortune."

Ye weakly tried to reach up and pull his drip out.

"What are you doing!?" Tsunade barked.

"I— I don't have that kind of money!" he croaked.

Though he said he had no money, the resolve in his eyes was clear. Tsunade realized: this kid still intended to go to the battlefield.

Her head ached at the thought. This whole mess seemed to have started because of her. Her own brother was dead, and now she had to stop this brat from throwing his life away.

"You want to die!?" Tsunade's voice was icy.

Ye fell silent. Tsunade was exasperated — reasoning with an obsessive Uchiha was impossible.

But the Uchiha's Sharingan didn't lie.

"Tsunade: Nawaki's matter ends here. I need you to stay with the Uchiha clan," she said more softly, but firmly. Under that command, Ye's dead, hollow eyes flickered with a hint of light. He slowly lifted his head and looked at her with a spark of hope, voice hoarse:

"Tsunade Captain — you mean you want me to investigate the traitors in the Uchiha clan myself?"

One red tomoe stared straight at her; only by facing them directly could she understand how fanatical the Uchiha could be.

Tsunade was speechless — this brat was on another level — but the idea suited her. She could use him as a pair of eyes planted inside the clan. At least she'd know what was happening.

Seeing Tsunade silent, Ye's face hardened with obsessive determination.

"For the sake of Konoha! Captain Tsunade, rest assured — I will not allow anyone to betray the village!"

There it was.

Tsunade exhaled a long sigh, and, inwardly, she finally understood the heart of the Uchiha as recorded in the clan histories.

Obsessive. Single-minded.

Ye's determined expression gave her a quiet relief, and his eyes flicked toward the IV bag with secret thankfulness. The gene-stabilizing reagent was precious — fortunate that everything so far had gone right.

With Tsunade's protection, he had confidence he could fully fuse the bloodlines over five or six years.

"Lie down. I'm going to study your other bloodline properly now," Tsunade said, her voice cold but acquiescent — she'd agreed to his little spy role.

Ye said nothing and lay back on the bed, secretly relieved. His gamble had paid off: not only had he latched onto a powerful patron in Tsunade, he had also awakened the Sharingan.

Indeed, he had talent — the predisposition to open his eyes had been there. The sennin-seal's negative emotional spike just pushed him over the edge.

Even if everything had failed, he still had Mikoto as a fallback.

"Your bloodline rejection is severe. If you abuse it, don't expect to live many years," Tsunade said, frowning as she inspected him. Ye remained silent, still mired in thoughts about Nawaki's death.

Tsunade's headache deepened; reasoning with him was hopeless.

"This unknown bloodline is latent in your body, but because of the rejection effect, your body's defensive mechanisms have forced it into a seal pattern around your neck…"

She shifted topics and began to describe the unknown bloodline hiding in Ye's body. As she talked, her eyes shone with exploratory hunger.

Bloodline research!

The ninja world never stopped researching. For the greatest medical-nin in the land, encountering unknown material like this was too tempting to refuse. She wouldn't lie — she was interested.
