The teleportation was very short.
In less than a second, Louis and the others heard a loud ringing in their ears.
It was the sound of car horns!
A moment later, Louis breathed in familiar air. His vision slowly returned, and a modern city appeared before him.
Cars filled the roads, people moved quickly in every direction.
It was a busy, living city — Tokyo, at the beginning of the 21st century.
Then a voice echoed in his ears:
[ Player L.K, please choose your faction within 30 seconds. ]
[ Faction 1: Police. ]
[ Faction 2: Society. ]
Louis was surprised. It was clearly the Tower System, helping players blend into the new world.
For players who don't know this story, he thought, they will probably choose the safer side — the police.
He looked around and noticed he was alone; the other players had been sent to different places.
Without hesitation, Louis chose Faction 2: Society.
He knew that being part of the police might seem safer, but it would limit his freedom. Without direct orders, movement would be difficult — and any suspicious act could expose him.
The second faction, though less informed, gave him more freedom.
[ Choice confirmed. ]
[ You now have the identity of a foreign tourist named Louis MacLaine. ]
[ You will not attract attention unless you act suspiciously. ]
[ Main Mission 1: Discover the identity of the main police detective. ]
[ Main Mission 2: Discover the identity of the main villain of this world. ]
[ Main Mission 3: ??? ??? ]
[ Warning: Do not reveal any information about the Tower to the people of this world. ]
The words echoed in Louis's mind.
He looked at the glass window of a nearby store and saw that his appearance had changed.
He was no longer a sixteen-year-old boy. Now he looked like a young adult — older, sharper.
A random, forgettable face. Perfect for staying hidden.
He checked his pocket and found a simple mobile phone and a passport with his new identity.
The phone was an old one — small buttons, black-and-white screen.
While he examined it, a female voice called out nearby:
"Light! You're here!"
Louis looked up.
A young woman in her early twenties was walking toward someone. She was short, slim, with golden blonde hair — a beautiful girl.
Two men stood near her:
One was a tall boy, about eighteen or nineteen, with brown hair — calm but alert.
The other was in his mid-twenties, messy hair, casual clothes.
Louis recognized them instantly.
They were the main characters.
An idea quickly formed in his mind.
He decided to watch from a distance.
When the blonde girl — Misa — left the area with another woman, Louis quietly followed her.
At the film set, Louis managed to sneak in with the production crew.
Luckily, there were many volunteers helping with the work — easy for him to blend in.
Carrying some equipment, he moved closer to Misa, who was preparing for a scene.
He looked around carefully, then approached her.
Just as Misa was about to leave, she froze.
A firm hand grabbed her arm.
A low whisper followed:
"Amane Misa… or should I say ' Second Kira'?
If you value your life — and Light Yagami's life — you must leave now."
Misa's eyes widened.
When she heard "Second Kira," she stiffened.
When she heard "Light Yagami," she trembled slightly.
"W-who are you? I don't know what you're talking about!"
"Enough lies," Louis whispered. "I know Light Yagami is the real Kira. I'm here to help."
"Help?" Misa repeated, unsure.
"Yes. You've heard of L, right? The detective chasing Kira? He already suspects Light. He'll use you to catch him. You must come with me before the police arrive."
"I… I…" Misa hesitated.
Louis spoke faster:
"L already stole your phone. He's waiting for Light to call you so he can set a trap."
"What?! He took my phone? When? I thought I just dropped it somewhere!"
In that moment, Misa had unknowingly confirmed everything Louis said.
' Was she always this naïve?' Louis sighed to himself. ' Poor Kira.'
"Put this on — quickly."
He handed her a hooded coat he had found nearby. It was from the costume rack.
"This…"
" It's the best disguise I could find. You need to hide your face."
Misa sniffed the coat.
"Ew, it smells awful!"
"No time. Let's go."
"O-okay, wait—"
"Hurry. We don't have time."
A few minutes later, police arrived at the scene.
All they found was Misa's empty bag lying on the floor.
When L heard the report, his face darkened.
"Impossible… I made sure Light couldn't contact her. He was with me the entire day.
So who…? Is there a third player in this case?
Or… could it be that Light Yagami isn't Kira after all?"
