She glanced at the caller ID, took a deep breath, and tapped to answer.
"How come you two suddenly ended up together?"
Raina Grant's voice was nearly shrill, with the background popping and crackling from a frying pan.
Vivian Sinclair's ears were ringing from her shouting, so she quickly held the phone away a little.
She paused, tried to steady her breathing, then started talking from the moment she mistakenly thought he'd been in a car accident earlier in the day.
A piercing scream came from the other end of the line.
"Oh my god! I knew it! You two were bound to get together sooner or later!"
"Why?"
Vivian frowned slightly, a hint of confusion flashing in her eyes.
"I constantly doubt myself—even I can't really be sure of my own worth. He, though, he's so out of reach, above it all… What am I? Just another ordinary person among millions."
"It's the way he looks at you!"
Raina said it firmly, not a shred of hesitation.
