The words cut cleanly through the dreadful atmosphere, sharp enough to momentarily drown out everything else.
Yet it wasn't his tragic cadence that drew my attention, it was the implication buried within those few words.
He knew about it?
The thought surfaced unbidden, my eyes widening for barely a frame before I forced the reaction down.
It wasn't the mention itself that unsettled me the most, but the fact that something like the Inner Chaos was even within his scope of knowledge.
Still, upon a second thought, it wasn't entirely impossible.
Among superior races, such information could very well be considered common knowledge, and by all indications, this being was either one of them, or something that had long since diverged from its kin.
There was also another possibility, one far less comforting.
That there wasn't just one such entity aware of it, but several.
