"Stay back," Summer warned, though terror was already gnawing at her insides. "One more step and I'll scream."
Her voice shook despite her effort to sound firm.
The men laughed, the ugly sounds scraping against her nerves. They exchanged glances, clearly entertained, as if her fear were a game.
"Scream," the second man drawled, taking another step closer. "No one is coming to save you."
Her heart pounded so hard it hurt. Danger was right in front of her, and she felt exposed, vulnerable.
"At first, we only wanted to take the boy." His eyes crawled over her. "But now… such a pretty woman. It'd be a shame to leave you behind."
He licked his lips, making her stomach churn. "I wonder how you'll sound when you beg beneath me."
"Let's take both," the first man said eagerly, cracking his knuckles.
They lunged.
"Noel—run," Summer screamed.
She grabbed his small hand and sprinted through the parking lot.
"Run faster," one of the men jeered behind them. "You won't get far."
