Danica jerked her head toward Noel, her thoughts spiraling. 'This useless brat really told Summer everything.' Rage burned in her chest. 'Just wait. Once I take him back, I'll make sure he learns his lesson. He'll forget how to speak at all.'
On the surface, however, she forced herself to remain composed. "Noel, why didn't you tell me you were hurt? I told you not to hide anything from me. Have you already forgotten?"
Terrified, Noel slipped behind Summer, afraid Danica would strike him. His reaction only fueled Danica's anger.
"Come here," she ordered. "Let me take a look at your arm."
Noel stayed where he was, unmoving.
"Why pretend to care now?" Summer scoffed. "Just admit it—you don't look after him at all. You are far too busy with yourself."
"Shut up." Danica's shrill voice echoed in the hall. "You lost your daughter, and now you want to steal my son. I see right through your schemes."
