"Summer, I know you hate Danica. Maybe you have every reason to," Gideon said. "And I can see that some of what you are saying makes sense. But she is still Noel's mother."
Even as he spoke, there was hesitation in him. "Saying she doesn't care about her own son feels too harsh. I don't believe that's true."
Summer stared at him, stunned. She had always known his trust in Danica ran deep, yet she had still foolishly hoped that she could make him see the truth. She was wrong. This man would never recognize Danica's real nature.
"When someone chooses to be blind, no one can open their eyes," she muttered bitterly. "You trust her completely. What anyone else says means nothing to you. Fine…"
She held up her hands in defeat. "I'm not surprised. I never expected you to trust me."
Her voice hardened. "But as a father, you failed Noel. That child is suffering, and you and Danica are so wrapped up in your own lives that you don't even notice. You have no idea what he is going through."
