Summer straightened her back as she went after him. She was determined she wouldn't let him bully her this time.
As she entered the office, Gideon didn't waste a second. "What was happening out there?" he demanded, clipped and cold. "Why was there such commotion?"
Summer let out a humorless scoff in her mind. The tone, the attitude—she knew it too well. Of course. He would blame her like always.
She lifted her chin, meeting his gaze.
"What is the point of explaining?" she said sharply, bitterness coating her voice. "You won't trust me. I'm always a troublemaker in your eyes. So fine. I accept it. The commotion was because of me. I caused it. I distracted everyone deliberately."
She crossed her arms defiantly. "Now what? Are you going to fire me?"
Gideon stared at her, surprised, irritated, and something else crackling behind his eyes. His fists tightened on the desk, the veins on his forearms standing out as he struggled to suppress his anger.
