Summer's fingers tightened around the bouquet, her eyes clouding for a second as last night's memories threatened to resurface. Gideon's hurtful words echoed inside her head. But she forced her expression to remain neutral.
She mustered a smile, hiding the sorrow in her mind.
"I was feeling a little unwell," she lied, not meeting his eyes. "So I left quickly."
Hearing that, Landon's guilt deepened. "I'm really sorry. I should have stayed by your side."
"Please, Landon, don't apologize anymore," Summer insisted gently. "Your deal mattered the most. Speaking of which… did you get an appointment with Mr. Smith?"
At that, Landon's expression brightened instantly. "I discussed the project with his assistant. He was impressed with the idea. I'm confident I'll get the investment."
"That's great," Summer chirped, excited. "Let me congratulate you in advance."
