Chapter 2 - chapter 2

The bell finally rang, echoing through the corridors like a sigh of relief. I slung my bag over my shoulder and stepped out of the classroom. Finally, class is over, I thought, my feet already moving toward the courtyard.

I walked down the path. Now I can go to my favorite spot, the only place where I don't have to worry about socializing. I walked down the path some more and into the open air where the cherry blossom tree stood in full bloom. It was my sanctuary—soft petals drifting in the breeze, the grass untouched, the nice patch of grass underneath the tree always waiting.

——— (perceptive change)

I walked down the path, not paying attention to where my feet were taking me. I had looked up after I noticed a cherry blossom tree and there she was. I considered turning back, but it wasn't like she would care if I actually sat next to her.

I walked up the steep hill. Gosh why did they plant a tree up here I thought, catching my breath. I looked at the girl before I took a seat right next to her. Her blue eyes were focused on the book and reminded me of the ocean, her hair flowed in the wind, and her fingers carefully turned the pages.

How is someone so beautiful up here by themselves?

I looked away from her face and back at her book. She seemed concentrated on what she was reading, and she must have wanted a quiet place so she could focus. I wonder what book she is reading.

I looked back at her one more time and then looked up at the sky and rested my head on my knee.

—— (perceptive change)

I had noticed the boy walking up the hill, not minding any attention to him until he sat next to me. He looked at me a few times and then looked off somewhere else, that was my chance. I looked up at him, taking in who decided to sit next to me.

I came here because I thought I wouldn't have to socialize.

But why is he sitting next to me anyway?

he looked back at me after zooning out or something crappy like that. He probably came here to tease me but I don't want to just assume so I met eyes with him which took me a bit of strength and I said,

"What are you doing?" I had said it in a stern but calm voice, making sure my point came across.

He looked at me with the most confused puppy eyes I have ever seen.

"Are you talking to me?" He replied, pointing at himself.

Now I am pissed off, who else would I be speaking to?!

"Who do you think I'm talking to idiot?" I looked down at him harshly.

This time he seemed really surpised and he said,

"You can see me?" He looked down at me when he said that, genuine curiosity was in his tone and eyes.

"What do you mean," I said, "am I not supposed to?" I wasn't really pissed off anymore, I felt as curious as he looked, why was he saying such a phrase?

He just looked down at the ground and said playfully "Nevermind" he laughed. He had said that in a way a friend talks to one another.

What does he mean by that? What did he mean when he asked if I could see him? Well, it's not like i actually care anyway.

"What's your name?" He said looking down at me, all smiley. "I'm Kairo Kanzaki!"

"I-Im Yuna," I said stuttering a bit, it was my first time socializing in a long time. "I'm Yuna Hoshizora.

He was looking at me the same way he was when he first sat down, his eyes almost lingered on my words, almost like he was taking in every consonant I said.

"That's a pretty name!" He said smiling.

No one had every called me pretty, well said anything about me was pretty at least.

"So whatcha reading?" Kairo asked.

And that was the day I made my first real friend.
