William found Bri seated at the garden, on the stone bench near the fountain. Her arms were crossed tightly against the cold night air.
When she heard footsteps behind her, she didn't turn at first, planning to ignore whoever was there, hoping they would go away. But the sound grew closer until she finally looked over her shoulder.
"What are you doing here, William?" she asked, her voice sharper than intended. "I prefer to be alone."
"I get that," he said quietly, stopping a few feet away while taking off his coat and placing it on Bri's shoulders. "But can we talk?"
She sighed, turning back toward the fountain. "Fine. But make it quick."
"About tonight... I'm sorry. About all of it." William decided to get straight to it.
Bri let out a short, bitter laugh. "Which part exactly, William? Because a lot of hurtful things have happened tonight. Are you sorry about your girlfriend's little outburst or the fact that Jake called you out in front of your family? Which one?"
