Hanalei clutched her small bag tightly against her chest, her heart beating so loud she was sure the people walking past her in the busy Toronto airport terminal could hear it. She kept her head down, her eyes scanning the floor as she walked past the arrival gates. She was terrified, completely trembling, her mind racing with images of her father's guards catching her.
She hadn't seen him since they dragged him away. She didn't even know if he was safe.
Bzzzz.
The phone in her pocket vibrated. Hanalei's fingers shook as she pulled it out. It was a text from the unknown number.
Turn around.
Slowly, like everything around her had just dropped into slow motion, she turned around.
And there he was.
Dimitri was leaning casually against a pillar near the exit. One of his hands was shoved deep into his black coat pocket, his messy hair falling perfectly over his forehead. He looked so effortlessly handsome it didn't even make sense.
