Chapter 5 - "Bardock’s Return"

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

To be honest, Harry didn't actually know that much about this era of Dragon Ball. What he understood came from scattered bits of information mentioned in the original story — vague at best, incomplete at worst.

If he wanted to truly understand it all, he'd have to live through it himself.

That was why he was waiting for Bardock to return.Only after hearing the details of Bardock's mission — and the next one — could he confirm where exactly they stood in the timeline.

One thing was certain: the God of Destruction and his angel attendant had just left Planet Vegeta. Even if they went straight to Frieza next, the planet's destruction wouldn't happen anytime soon.

And before Planet Vegeta's destruction, Frieza had ordered all Saiyans to return from their missions so he could wipe out both the planet and the entire race in one strike.

"Forget it for now. The more I think about it, the messier it gets. Better to focus on how I'm going to leave Planet Vegeta in one piece."

The story of this world was nowhere near as simple as Harry had expected.

He'd been trying to nail down an accurate timeline — not just for curiosity's sake, but to keep control of every possible advantage. After all, he was a time traveler, and that was his greatest edge.

"Man, this is giving me a headache. If only I had some kind of cheat or system, I wouldn't have to think so hard. Being a transmigrator without perks… what a joke."

Sure, being Saiyan was technically a cheat in itself — but he didn't have the time to grow into that power.

If he wasn't trapped by these circumstances — if he were on Earth, for example — there'd be countless ways to get stronger. With the right use of the original story's opportunities, he was sure he could've become powerful fast.

"I can't do much about Bardock, but I should at least make sure Aunt Gine gets off this planet." He muttered quietly to himself.

He wasn't the type to forget kindness.

He'd made that decision long ago.

If it were just about his own survival, he'd already had one or two chances to leave the planet alone half a year ago.

In the original story, Gine died because Bardock couldn't bring himself to act decisively enough.

But truthfully, someone like Gine — weak, gentle, with a low power level — could've left with Kakarot without drawing any attention.

There were even similar cases in the canon timeline — like Paragus, who outright threatened a comrade to steal a spaceship so he could find his exiled son, Broly.

Of course, there were deeper complications there.Still, the fact remained — once you reached another planet and cut off communication, no one would know whether you were alive or dead. And honestly, nobody would bother to check.

Especially someone like him, who held no "strategic value."

Over the years, Harry had trained hard while also studying how to pilot and operate Saiyan spacecrafts.

He wanted to know every function, every design — enough to disappear without a trace once he left Planet Vegeta.

Time slipped by little by little.

After testing out several escape plans, Harry went back to his usual training.

And this time, his training brought an enormous breakthrough.

His power level had finally broken through the 1,000 mark — so high that he almost lost control of his energy and exposed himself.

He wasn't sure whether it was because danger was getting closer, or because the presence of the God of Destruction and his angel had pressured him subconsciously.

Whatever the reason, all the tension and fear had pushed his potential to erupt.

That night, Harry went to Gine's home for dinner, as usual. They chatted for a long while afterward.

It ended up being one of his rare sleepless nights.

Even though the looming destruction of the planet often crossed his mind, it hadn't happened yet — so the worry had always been abstract. He could still sleep soundly after a long day of training.

Until tonight.

By noon the next day, Harry finally woke up.

He'd only managed to fall asleep after dawn, thanks to the restless night.

Yawning, he splashed some cold water on his face, feeling his drowsiness fade.

"Guess it's true — you can't let your mind get too heavy. No matter how strong your body or will is, too many thoughts will mess with you."

He stretched out, rolling his shoulders and loosening his muscles, letting his body get used to yesterday's breakthrough.

Just as he opened up his senses, a massive energy signature hit him — so sudden it made him freeze.

"Wait… Bardock's ki? He's back?"

He spoke aloud in surprise.Gine had told him roughly when Bardock would return, but sensing it out of nowhere still caught him off guard.

"Damn, I'm still too dull. How could I miss a power that huge until now?"With a sigh, Harry admitted it — he was still too weak.

That realization left him feeling a bit useless, like he'd gotten too comfortable.

Meanwhile, inside Bardock's home—

The man himself was already back, eating Gine's home-cooked meal while catching up on everything that had happened while he was gone.

Afterward, Gine led him to the back room, where Bardock finally saw his youngest son — Kakarot.

"Kakarot… this kid's already six months old, and he's still asleep?" Bardock muttered, adjusting his scouter.

Beep beep beep… beep beep…

[Power Level: 2]

"So it really is just two points. And it hasn't changed at all since birth," Bardock said with a trace of disappointment.

His older son, Raditz, was an upper-class warrior — barely over the threshold, sure, but still around 200.And yet this one… only 2. Not even low-class soldiers had such weak readings.

As a low-class warrior himself, Bardock knew that a Saiyan's power at birth didn't necessarily decide their future.

Still, Kakarot didn't show even a flicker of potential.

"Bardock, I know Kakarot's power is low, but he's still our son. Don't you dare do anything to hurt him," Gine said softly but firmly beside him, worry clouding her gentle face.

She was a mother first and a Saiyan second — power didn't matter to her.If anything, Kakarot's weakness only made her want to protect him more.

"Come on, Gine, I'm not that coldhearted. I'd never hurt my own child." Bardock gave her a small smile, though his eyes were heavy.

Inwardly, he couldn't help but sigh.

After his latest mission, his unease had only grown stronger.

Maybe Kakarot being weak wasn't such a bad thing after all.

At least no one would pay attention to him.Even if they did, a baby with a power level of two was beneath notice.

In recent years, Bardock had felt more and more pressure — even from within the Saiyan ranks. His son Raditz being stationed near Prince Vegeta seemed like an honor on the surface, but Bardock knew the truth.

It was nothing but leverage. The king was keeping his child as a hostage.
