Chapter 2: Accepting Reality
1,299 Words
"Hey, catch!"
Even though it had been a week since Chris transmigrated into this world, he still felt a bit shocked when the white Labrador stood up and threw a baseball at him.
However, his body instinctively reached out and caught the baseball, then assumed a perfect throwing posture.
Just as Chris was about to throw the ball to Brian, Lois poked her head out and shouted, "Chris, stop playing and come try my strawberry pie!"
Lois's sharp voice rang out, and Chris stopped what he was doing. Brian shrugged and said, "Well, looks like we'll have to pick this up next time."
Chris was surprised that a dog could do something so human-like, but he also looked a bit regretful, saying, "If you had gotten three more points, I would have won. Lois's strawberry pie saved your wallet."
"Aha! Doesn't that just prove Lois is my lucky charm!"
When Brian heard Chris's complaint, not only did he not admit defeat, but he shamelessly started to show off.
However, Chris couldn't be bothered to argue. After all, although this dog wasn't as vicious as the one in the cartoon, he wasn't exactly a good dog either.
After putting away the baseball and glove, Chris went to the washroom to wash his hands, as he used to, and then walked to his seat.
A steaming strawberry pie sat quietly on the table.
The sweet aroma made Chris's throat tighten, instantly awakening his physiological instincts. A strange voice in his mind ordered him to quickly devour the food.
However, the consciousness from the transmigrator was somewhat resistant. After all, this thing was really too sweet for him.
For someone whose teeth would ache from the sweetness of even a single bottle of carbonated drink in his past life, this calorie bomb that looked and smelled sickeningly sweet was simply unbearable.
But the other members of the family clearly didn't think so; Brian and Meg had already polished off the food on their plates.
Although Chris was curious if Brian could even eat something this sweet, seeing the eager look in Brian's eyes as he stared at the strawberry pie, Chris knew he could no longer view this world through the lens of his past life.
Chris let out a long sigh, suppressed his internal discomfort, and then picked up his knife and fork and began to eat.
The food wasn't as hard to swallow as Chris had imagined, but the satisfaction he felt from his genes told him that this food was indeed extremely high in calories.
No wonder Peter and Chris were severely obese in this family.
Of course, the others hadn't lost much weight either.
Stewie watched Chris's strange actions, an interesting thought flashing in his eyes, and his teasing gaze aroused Brian's curiosity.
Seeing that Stewie made no further moves and that Chris had finished his strawberry pie, Brian looked regretfully at the empty table and walked to the living room to watch TV.
After the children finished eating, Lois began to clear the table and asked about Chris's injuries.
"Chris, how have you been feeling these past two days? Is anything bothering you?"
Chris was caught off guard by this sudden concern. He had already thoroughly despaired of this cold and ruthless family, but Lois allowed him to experience the warmth of human affection.
It was no different from his family in his previous life.
Through Lois, Chris discovered that the real world wasn't as depicted in the cartoon, devoid of any ethics, but a complete beast's den.
Of course, this feeling was currently limited to Lois alone.
At least during the week he had been recuperating at home, Peter had never shown any concern for him.
He didn't even say hello; at most, he didn't drink at home and always left early and returned late.
Considering the animalistic behavior Peter exhibited in the cartoon, his ability to restrain himself from drinking and fooling around at home was probably a rare display of his gentle side.
Chris absentmindedly got up to help Lois clear the table, muttering, "Oh! No, I feel fine. I think I can go back to school tomorrow."
Lois was very surprised by Chris's initiative to clear the table. She hadn't expected the usually lazy and incompetent Chris to be so filial.
This made Lois a bit uncomfortable for a moment. She quickly took the dishes Chris handed her and continued, "It's good that you're fine. But I've already requested two weeks off for you. Are you sure you don't want to take this opportunity to relax properly?"
Lois was a pure white woman; she didn't understand the subtleties of Chinese speech. When Chris said he was fine, she truly believed he was fine.
Instead, they began discussing whether Chris could take another week off.
However, Chris had already fully recovered the day he was discharged from the hospital. This week's rest was just for him to adapt to the environment and recover his memories, which was why he hadn't spoken much.
Now that we're familiar with all the circumstances and have received all of the original owner's memories, there's no need to waste any more time.
It's important to get back to class as soon as possible, familiarize myself with the American education system, and plan for the future.
After all, she had a relationship with Lois's father and had the help of the child prodigy, Stewie.
He believed he had a chance to become the master of the White House in the future.
Therefore, we should roll it up even tighter.
However, Chris couldn't tell Lois these plans directly, so he could only say vaguely, "Forget it, Mom. If I play for another week, I won't have to leave school on time later. I don't want to be kept at home after school!"
Lois was surprised by the correct answer, then burst out laughing, "Oh, hahaha, it looks like my little fatty has grown up!"
As she spoke, Lois reached out and rubbed Chris's chin. This gentle kneading made the flesh on Chris's face jiggle, which Lois found amusing again.
"Alright, you guys go play! Mom's going to wash the dishes."
Watching Lois walk into the kitchen, Chris dropped his pretense and turned to look at Stewie.
The mischievous infant revealed a mysterious smile, staring at Chris with an all-knowing gaze.
"We should talk?"
Chris took the initiative to extend an invitation to the genius infant Stewie, who made no secret of his abilities and openly told Chris that he saw through everything.
Stewie, making such a gesture, clearly wanted to talk to his changed brother.
So Stewie smiled and said, "Of course! How about we go somewhere more secluded?"
Following Stewie's gaze to the living room, Meg was engrossed in the TV, but Brian's perked-up ears indicated that the dog was very interested in their conversation.
Although Chris didn't intend to hide his identity, he understood that more people would inevitably lead to trouble.
Before understanding Stewie's specific thoughts, Chris decided it was best to keep it a secret.
"Your secret base or somewhere else?"
Hearing Chris's words, Stewie raised an eyebrow and continued, "It seems you know quite a lot!"
Chris smiled mysteriously and said no more.
Stewie didn't ask any more questions. She just stood up from her seat and said with her short legs, "Follow me!"
Brian watched Stewie and Chris go upstairs, his tail wagging so hard it left afterimages, but after thinking for a moment, he ultimately decided not to follow.
As a writer, Brian understood the principle of self-preservation very well.
These two were clearly involved in some secret transaction, and he, this simple-minded little dog, was better off not getting involved.
