Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Large Scale Shooting

Two armed military Humvees braked sharply, screeching to a halt inside the grounds of the pharmaceutical research institute.

The staff inside stared in shock at the two Humvees, and at the five fully armed men who got out. Their expressions were filled with confusion.

The next moment, they no longer needed to feel confused.

A few light taps from the silenced HK416 automatic rifles, and 5.56mm rounds instantly pierced through several people, spraying blood in all directions.

Some of the research staff finally reacted, screaming in terror. They threw their documents to the ground and ran toward the five-story main building while shouting frantically.

Toru waved his hand and said to the armed personnel, "According to the plan, clear everyone out."

The remaining four split into two teams of two, holding rifles, and quickly moved to the building entrance using tactical movements. After checking the inside, they stormed into the building.

Since Toru was acting alone, he moved independently.

Someone screamed and ran out of the building, but Toru ignored it.

Gunshots rang out again, and the person running out was immediately shot, collapsing with blood pouring from their chest.

In another tall building nearby, the sniper and spotter were already in position. Their mission was to eliminate anyone who tried to escape.

Toru raised his rifle and entered the building using small steps, firing controlled bursts whenever he saw someone.

Not all the researchers inside were members of the Black Organization, but most were reserve members. It was better to kill the wrong person than let a single one escape.

"Intruders! Hurry and get your weapons!"

The security personnel inside the building finally reacted. They rushed to the armory to get weapons and prepare to fight back.

These firearms were illegally held. No medical research facility could legally apply for so many weapons.

Japan nominally does not ban guns, but in reality, gun control is extremely strict. Not banning guns officially is just copying their America daddy.

Under such strict gun management, it is basically the same as a gun ban. You will not see gun shops everywhere.

The security personnel came out holding guns and shouting.

But facing Toru's fully armed elite squad, these barely trained guards were no different from street thugs waving guns at actual soldiers. It was a complete one-sided massacre.

Toru leaned against the wall and fired several bursts, taking down a few security guards who rushed out without any tactical training.

Looking at the pistols they held, he shook his head slightly.

The power of those pistols could not even penetrate the plates on his tactical vest. Even if he stood still and let them shoot, they would not be able to hurt him.

After taking down a few guards, Toru walked up and put a finishing shot into each of their heads.

Reaching the corridor, he kicked open the first door. A staff member inside wearing a white coat saw him, fell to his knees, and shouted, "Please, don't kill me."

Toru did not hesitate. He raised his gun and shot him. After checking the room to ensure no one else was inside, he left and moved on to the second room to continue clearing.

Passing a load-bearing wall, he took out a remote-detonated C4 charge and placed it on the wall.

A demolition expert must understand civil engineering. Only then can you use the least amount of explosive to collapse a building.

The other armed personnel were doing the same, eliminating personnel and planting C4.

For a while, the entire research building was filled with gunshots, screams, crying, and painful groans.

...

At the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, after answering the emergency call, the operator quickly reported the situation to Inspector Megure.

Inspector Megure also received a call from the higher-ups. He repeatedly said "Yes", hung up, stood up, and shouted, "Everyone gather now, report your weapons, and head out with me."

Seeing him act so seriously, Takagi quickly asked, "What's wrong, Inspector Megure? Is there another murder case?"

Recently, for some reason, bizarre murder cases in Tokyo had been endless. These police officers had to run around every day trying to solve all kinds of strange cases.

Especially since every case used extremely bizarre killing methods.

Megure replied while preparing, "It's more serious than a murder case. They say there was a large-scale shooting incident in the suburbs of Tokyo. Not only our Investigation Division One, the higher-ups are also sending extra police to the scene."

"Inspector Shiratori, Sato, prepare as well. Shooting incidents aren't common."

"Yes!"

Takagi was surprised. "Large-scale shooting? Are we going to be in a gunfight like those officers in America?"

Although he said that, there was a hint of excitement in his voice.

Shooting incidents are extremely rare in Japan. Criminal Investigation officers carry guns, but rarely get to fire them, let alone exchange shots with criminals.

Every man likes shooting. The marksmanship they practiced at the academy is practically useless in real cases. It is sometimes disappointing.

Some young officers were excited. After reporting and receiving their firearms, they jogged out with Megure.

Looking at the revolvers in their hands, they were filled with confidence. In their minds, what kind of large-scale shooting could even happen in Japan? With so many officers heading out together, what was there to fear?

They just wondered if they would get a chance to shoot this time.

If they needed to shoot, it would be their moment to show off their marksmanship.

Police cars drove out onto the Tokyo streets one after another. In addition to Megure's division, multiple other Criminal Investigation divisions also deployed at the same time.

For a moment, dozens of police cars formed a massive convoy, looking extremely impressive.

Driving the car, Inspector Megure suddenly had a bad feeling.

Why were so many officers being deployed? Just how large-scale was this so-called shooting?

...

Inside the pharmaceutical company's gas chamber, Shiho regained consciousness from the intense pain.

She staggered to her feet, holding her aching heart, and murmured in a hoarse voice, "Why am I still alive? What is this?"

She looked at the oversized lab coat and red knitted sweater on her body, then at her now shorter hands and arms, and said in disbelief, "I shrank too?"

Because she now had the body of an elementary school student, the handcuffs could no longer restrain her.

After realizing she had shrunk, Shiho immediately looked around. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that there were no cameras.

Suddenly, she heard commotion outside and thought her shrinking had been discovered.

But apart from terrified screams and running footsteps, she could also faintly hear gunshots.

"Run! Those lunatics are killing anyone they see! From the way it looks, they seem to be searching for someone!"

Shiho, who was very close to the door, clearly heard the conversation of the people fleeing outside.

"What is going on? Killing everyone they see? Even Gin wouldn't do that. Could it be another organization that broke in?"

"And they are looking for someone. Is it me?"

It was not that Shiho was being narcissistic. But in this research institute, if there was anyone valuable enough to be the target, it would be her.

Her newly shrunken body was very weak, and she also felt sick.

But she didn't have time to think. She saw a small garbage chute that only a child's body could fit through and immediately climbed inside.

Since she was still alive and had a chance to escape, she had no intention of dying.

If possible, she wanted to avenge her sister even more.
