Chapter 11 - Chapter 10. No longer her doormat

Ethan dropped me off at Catherine's mansion. I walked into the living room, where Catherine was sitting on the couch sipping a tea. Catherine stood up and walked towards me spreading her arms for a big hug. I walked into her arms and she enveloped me in a tight hug

"It's so great to see you dear," she said. Her eyes sparkled with warmth as she gazed at me.

I made my way to the couch and soon enough, Catherine came to join me.

"I love your decorations ma"

"Oh! Don't call me Ma, mummy is fine. After all, you're my daughter now" Catherine teased

"You love the decorations right? I love making the house cozy and welcoming for everyone and the new additions" Catherine said with a sly smile on her face

"Oh! What kind of additions?" I ignorantly blurted out

The room was filled with Catherine's laughter at the question "well, I think you know exactly what am hinting at dear. You and Ethan are married now, and I just can't help but wonder when I'll get to hold some little grand babies in my arms"

I shrugged at the thought of having a child "I understand what you're saying mom, but Ethan and I are not ready to have children yet"

"Alright dear, but don't make me wait too long. You know am not getting any younger" Catherine said, and stood up to get dressed for our mother-daughter outing as she'd fondly call it.

The sun was shining brightly as I and Catherine stepped out of the car. We just finished from the spa and we were headed to a high-end café for brunch.

Just as we reached the entrance of the café, I spotted a familiar figure walking towards us

"Vivian" I blurted out

I could see the distasteful expression from her as she walked towards me. Her lips paused and her brows furrowed. I felt a knot tighten in my stomach

"Avery," she said in a condescending manner "I didn't expect to see you here. I heard you're working with Ethan now"

I forced a smile trying to keep my composure "yes, I am and am really enjoying it" I replied, keeping my voice low and steady.

I was no longer her doormat. I was now Mrs. Blackwood and I had no reason to be scared of her.

She crossed her arms with a defensive posture

"interesting choice, considering your history with Harrison. You really think this is a good idea?"

How did she know? Oh Harrison, must have told her.

My heart raced at the mention of Harrison

"I've moved on from that, Vivian. Harrison and I are no longer together and I am happy with Ethan

"Happy?" she scoffed, raising an eyebrow and moving closer to me

I took a deep breath, trying to remain calm despite her barbed words. But I felt the anger bubbled within me and my cheek flushed

"Ethan cares about me. He's shown me more care and respect than I ever received from Harrison"

"Respect? You think he respects you?" Vivian shot back with a sharp voice "You should know better than to think this is going to end well"

I could tell she was trying to rile me up and it was working. I clenched my fist, trying not to lash out

"You don't know anything about our relationship, Vivian. You don't know Ethan and you certainly do not know me"

"Maybe, I know more than you think" Vivian replied in a condescending tone

I boldly took a step closer to Vivian "I made the right choice for myself Vivian. I've learnt from my past and I refuse to let anyone dictate my life"

"And one more thing" I continued

"I will get back all that was taken from me. From you, and Emily. So be prepared" I said with a vengeful tone.

With that, I turned to Catherine who was astound by the drama unfolding "let's go mom"

I left Vivian standing there with a surprised expression. In that moment, I realized I wouldn't let anyone undermine my happiness. I love Ethan and no one can come between us.
