Chapter 53 - Chapter 053: The Chairwoman Is Busy

I did not look away and stared straight into his eyes.

Whatever he decides to do now, I'd face it.

"Last chance," he spoke emotionlessly.

His hand left my neck, and I controlled the cough that wished to escape my lips when air returned to my system.

"Yes," I replied before he went up.

What a night.

I'm pretty sure Thomas Levin will either be heavily injured or be gone. Not that I would care if they die with me, making a move or not.

They dared to cross Kieran with a simple comment without really looking into it. Then they can just face the consequences.

Nevertheless, I should keep my taunting to information about myself from here on out.

Because they would take my words at the surface level.

...

The next day, I wore a turtle neck since his handprint became visible due to my fair skin.

A few minutes after I got to my office, Samantha came barging in.

"What did you do to my husband?" she was in fury, her whole face red.

I looked up from what I was doing, "What could I have done to him?"

Richard came at this moment.

"He had been missing since last night. Who else other than you would have done it?" Samantha furiously accused me.

"Do you really think it is because of me?" I said, slowly turning to Richard.

"Shouldn't you be thinking about what you could have done for him to disappear?" I added.

Richard's eyes shifted at my words.

"Give him back," Samantha shrieked.

"As I had been telling you, how will I return something that is not with me?" I shook my head.

She raised her hand to slap me, but why would I let her?

*Slap*

*Slap*

I grabbed her hand and slapped her instead, then slapped her with my other hand after releasing her hand.

Richard was too stunned at how fast things happened.

He could not react at all.

Samantha sat on the floor, her lips bleeding. She looked at me with shock.

"Who are you to dare raise your hand against me?" I looked at her from across the table.

Up to this morning, I was still irritated with what happened the night before. Not towards Kieran because his actions are understandable.

Instead, at myself for how I had been letting these people off too easily for them to dare make a move just because of my simple comment.

"You-" she angrily pointed at me.

I stood up, walked around the table, then squatted to level my gaze with hers. I placed my finger on her chin.

"Who are you to act so brazenly in the chairwoman's office? And towards the chairwoman at that?"

"I... You... This is..." she stammered, her breathing stuttered.

"I am in a very bad mood today. Can't you see how I am not even smiling right now?" I said in a whisper.

The same tone that makes others shiver in fear, especially when we are at eye level.

"Tell me, Richard. What did her husband do last night?"

Seeing how terrified Samantha became from that simple conversation, I stood up and turned to Richard, who remained silent all this time.

"I don't know," he replied almost instantly.

But his hands, which nervously rub each other, show how uncomfortable he is.

"Do you really not know?" I asked, walking closer to him.

"I don't. With the move you pulled last night. Do you think I still have the face to stay there? I had to leave early because of you," he argued, accusing me.

"The move I pulled? I only spoke the truth. We are not clueless here. We all know what you did. So what I said last night was nothing but the truth."

This time, I am now just a foot away from him.

"Your dear sister is accusing me of her husband's disappearance. But was it really me?"

He did not back down and looked back at me. It seems that he will be adamant that he does not know anything.

I smirked before walking back to Samantha, who found her strength to stand up.

"Your husband went ahead and crossed someone he shouldn't have. So whatever happened to him, I wouldn't know. I wouldn't care."

She looked at me both in fear and indignation.

"It is time for the two of you to leave. The chairwoman is busy," I walked back to my chair and sat down.

Richard moved first, pulling Samantha by the hand and leaving my office.

"You may have bought a drug known for its top quality in being undetected. But a chemical reaction is a chemical reaction," I muttered once I was alone.

Since I was trained to detect the slightest change in every food and drink I was served. Even those drugs that are the pride of those who created them could be detected by me.

And this should be the same with Kieran, especially with him being deeply involved in the underworld. He would have been trained even more.

...

Soon, Richard and Samantha entered his office.

"You said nothing would happen, then why is he missing?" Samantha argued.

"Nothing should have happened if we had succeeded. Didn't I tell you to look for the top-grade drug?"

"We did. We bought the best colorless, odorless, and tasteless drug."

"Then why did it fail?!?" Richard angrily shouted at her.

"Why are you getting angry?!?! My husband is currently missing, and that is because of what you tasked him with doing. I don't even know if he is still alive!!-"

*Slap*

"Don't you dare blame me for his negligence."

Her lips bled even more after receiving another slap.

"Go home and wait for news about him. I will speak with Sir Francis."
