Chapter 3 - Chapter 003: Looking Down At The Kingsleys

After organizing all the files in the memory card, I checked the time.

6:00 a.m.

I stretched and got up. I hadn't even realized I'd been working for twelve hours straight. But it was fine, I managed to sort everything, and now I have a starting point.

The information about my siblings' deaths was hastily compiled. I could tell Riven had been rushing, gathering what he could while he still had the strength.

I walked around a bit and finally took a proper look around the study.

It wasn't much different from the offices of those CEOs in the dramas I used to watch, sleek, orderly, expensive. Not that I ever cared about this place when I was younger.

Back then, the only times I came in here were to pull pranks or stir up trouble. I never paid attention to the books or the files.

A small laugh escaped me. I really was the problem child of the family.

One time when I was ten, I set a stack of files on fire in this same place because my father forgot to buy me the toy I had asked him to buy.

Those files were for a major project they were preparing for the company's anniversary.

My grandfather then grounded me for a week.

But that only brought them more headaches. Stuck at home, I started playing around with the company's system and caused even more trouble. They took away my phone, but I still had my secret laptop. Of course, I used that too.

In the end, it was Riven who came with a stern look on his face.

He was just 17 then.

He took a rope and tied me to a chair before sitting across me and looking at me with his steady eyes.

The two of us had a staring contest for who knows how long until I could no longer stand it. Being stared at by Riven was both oppressive, like being forced to face myself.

The reflection I'd see in his eyes felt like my own conscience asking me what I'd done. It was almost magical. His clear gaze made me realize, without a single word, that I was truly wrong for my tantrums.

My father, despite his cold demeanor, could never bring himself to get mad at us. Outsiders saw him as intimidating, but that coldness was reserved for them, never for his children.

That's why Riven became the one who'd straighten us, his younger siblings.

I shook my head upon realizing where my thoughts were going.

There is no time for a trip down memory lane. I don't need it either.

Getting melancholic won't help me think clearly.

I decided to make some coffee and eat something since my stomach had been growling for a while now.

...

After regaining some energy through food, I looked around the villa.

Helpers came by from time to time to clean, but they never stayed. And that suited me perfectly, I could move freely in this place.

I'd check every room, seeing their untouched things, I'd simply close the door again and move on to the next room.

After that, I went back to the study and started preparing for the security of this place. Buying all necessary cameras for security and setting up my own security precautions for my IP address.

Once I was done, I decided to grab lunch outside. I plan on collecting my siblings' belongings from their own places.

My phone rang just as my car drove out of the garage.

"Good afternoon, is this Miss Lilith Kingsley?"

"Speaking."

"We would like to ask you about the things of Miss Amelia Kingsley, left in her dorm room."

I scoffed. I can't hear even a tinge of sympathy from this person's tone, despite talking about a dead person.

"I will visit her dorm room personally in two days. Do not touch any of her belongings."

That forsaken school's dorm provides one room per student, and they have no idea that I told Amelia to set up a camera there.

She blocked me from seeing anything and only found out when I realized that something was wrong with my family. But that does not mean that the recording had stopped. Something I can easily do.

"But Miss-"

"Looking down at the Kingsley's I see. I am telling you once again, do not touch her belongings. I will fix them myself. My sister loves sending me photos of her room. I know where exactly everything is. If I see just one thing out of place, expect some repercussions."

Without waiting for her reply, I ended the call.

Then I made a call to the principal of that stupid school.

"He-"

"I talked to one of your personnel and said that I'd be taking care of my younger sister's belongings. Even with everything that happened, the Kingsley would still be the Kingsley. I hope you understand that. I might suddenly turn crazy, and you wouldn't want that if you still dare touch Amelia's things. I'll be there in two days."

Then I hung up without another word.

I guess Amelia's things were settled.

I'd check Christopher's place first, then I'd visit that person tonight.

The person whom I have decided to marry.

...

I got to Christopher's place, a penthouse in a tightly secured area.

But I threw the tightly secured words out of the penthouse window when I finally saw the place. Christopher had always given us the passcode to his place.

I slowly walked to the sofa and sat there while looking at the dimly lit place. Some lights were no longer working.

I looked down at my trembling hands and clasped them together.

"Say, Christopher..."

I started looking at his portrait in the middle of the room.

"...what did you experience before your death?"
