The river water was still a bit chilly in the early morning. Renee Morgan scooped up two handfuls of water to wash her face, and after wiping away the sleep from her eyes, she felt much more awake. When she rubbed the water off her eyes, she saw a reflection in the water—a figure with slightly wavy, loose long hair, scruffy beard, and a fierce-looking face—which startled her so much she almost fell into the river.
When Renee Morgan returned, everyone else was already up. Lynn Miller was about to head to the river to wash up, and Wendy Aldridge and Zara Chapman refused to go alone; they insisted Lionel Lincoln and Julian Prescott accompany them. After a round of discussion, the whole group was preparing to head towards the river.
Seeing Renee Morgan come back, Lynn Miller exaggeratedly widened her eyes: "Morgan, you got up so early and went to the river by yourself?"
