Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Truly Thick-Skinned

The women who entered through the door had already adapted to the darkness in the room and saw Feng Qing sitting on a pile of firewood, eating heartily without any regard for her image.

The women stared dumbfounded, each contemptuously thinking that the Feng family's eldest daughter truly couldn't make it to the top, behaving like a small-town girl; such a woman is not worth worrying about.

The women dispelled the worries from their hearts and couldn't help but start mocking.

"Oh my, how could such a woman be worthy of our Prince his excellency? With our Prince's regal appearance, he deserves the finest woman in the world."

"You're overthinking it. There's no way his excellency would want such a main wife. Haven't you seen she's been locked up in the woodshed?"

"Exactly, some people try to gain but end up losing everything; eventually, they might even lose their lives."

"Losing their life would be deserved; who told them to hanker after what they shouldn't?"

Feng Qing listened to the women's words, too lazy to respond, focusing on eating her food.

This infuriated the speaking women, feeling like they had punched a cotton ball.

Just as the group was about to cause trouble, Guard Zhao came to the door and said, "Concubine, it's time to leave. If the Prince finds out, it might upset him."

One word silenced the women inside. They were obviously very afraid of Prince Rong Ling.

The leading gentle and delicate woman waved her handkerchief and said, "Alright, sisters, let's leave. This is boring."

The group quickly left the woodshed.

Inside the woodshed, Feng Qing finished a large bowl of food and decisively lay down on one side of the woodshed to sleep.

When she woke up again, it was already the next day, and she was awakened by someone.

"Princess Consort, wake up; the Prince asks for you to come over."

Nan Feng looked at the woman sleeping deeply, his mouth twitching. This woman's mind is really big, not worried about her safety at all?

Feng Qing, still dazed, not fully conscious, angrily snapped, "Shut up."

But as the words fell, she regained clarity and saw clearly that the man in front of her was none other than the close guard of Prince Regent, Nan Feng, not the one who used to beg her for medical treatment.

Feng Qing quickly asked, "What did you say just now?"

Nan Feng calmly said, "The Prince asks you to come over; he has something to discuss with you."

Feng Qing listened, and her heart skipped a beat. She recalled what Prince Regent had said earlier, giving her a chance to prove herself.

But she had slept until now and had not yet had the chance to think about proving her innocence.

Feng Qing couldn't help but hesitate, but Nan Feng didn't give her the chance, urging, "Princess Consort, please hurry, before the Prince gets angry?"

Upon hearing this, Feng Qing couldn't afford to hesitate further, quickly responding, "Let's go, let's go; we'll go now."

The master was extremely upset with her, and if she provoked him again, she feared he would pour her a bowl of poison in anger.

Nan Feng was very pleased with Feng Qing's discernment and turned to lead her on their way to see the Prince.

Feng Qing followed behind Nan Feng, desperately contemplating how to prove she didn't tamper with the wedding arrangements.

On the way, they encountered early-rising servants who couldn't help but take several looks at Feng Qing and then murmured among themselves, mostly saying how Feng Qing wasn't a match for their Prince.

Currently, the servants within the Regent Prince Mansion, and even the entire Capital City, knew the two young ladies of the Marquis Jing'an Mansion had gotten on the wrong sedan chair—the one meant for the Empress was taken by the Feng family's eldest daughter, meant for the Regent Prince Mansion.

The second young Lady, who should have been the Regent Queen, got into the sedan chair going to the palace.

All sorts of things were being said in private about this affair. But most people concluded that the Feng family's eldest daughter was not suited for Prince Regent and that he would likely dismiss this Princess Consort. Even if he didn't, he would surely send the Regent Queen to Huayun Lodge outside the city.
