"Grandma, can we talk about whatever it is downstairs? This is my workplace, you don't want people here thinking I can't handle myself, right? It took me forever to land this job, don't you think?"
Mrs. Sherman finally let out a cold snort and stood up.
Eve reached forward to help her, but she glared back and shook off Eve's hand.
"I'm still angry right now, so don't joke around with me."
Outside the office, all the employees cast furtive glances at Eve. Eve had rushed back just now, leaving Gigi Thorne behind; if Gigi were here, she'd have shouted by now, and the whole office would know Mrs. Sherman was Eve's grandma.
Eve barely managed to usher Mrs. Sherman out of Hess, got her seated in the car, and finally asked, as patiently as she could, "What exactly is going on that's made you so upset?"
"I'm not talking about anything else first. Hand me your phone."
Eve wasn't sure what she wanted, but handed her the phone anyway.
