"It has happened before" Vaikai said, his voice calm as it echoed softly through the vast hall. "That was centuries ago."
Ameila frowned, folding her arms as she walked beside him, her steps slower now, more cautious. "I thought things like that only happen in fairytales" she said, glancing at him. "Stories people tell children to make them sleep at night."
Vaikai let out a low laugh. "That would mean our existence is a fairytale" he replied, amusement lacing his tone.
Ameila stopped.
"Our?" she repeated, her brows drawing together.
Vaikai turned slightly, his gaze settling on her with quiet certainty. "Yes, my little princess."
"You have something powerful inside you" he continued, his voice lowering just a little. "Something that will make… different kinds of people come for you. Not to protect you. Not to help you." His eyes darkened slightly. "But to take you, for their own gain."
Ameila's fingers curled slightly at her sides.
Her mind flashed back to the cave.
