Emily sat on the living room carpet with a row of dolls lined up in front of her.
She was changing their clothes one by one. After dressing each doll, she placed it on the left, then the next on the right.
Her movements were slow and her fingers a little clumsy, but she was very serious.
Victoria sat on the nearby sofa, holding a cup of black tea and watching her quietly.
But Emily wasn't happy today. Her little mouth remained tightly pursed.
"Emily," Victoria put down her teacup, "why are you unhappy today?"
Emily didn't answer. She took off one doll's dress and put on another. She put the dress on backwards and didn't bother to take it off and fix it — she simply left it that way.
"Emily," Victoria called again.
Emily looked up, her eyes red. "Grandma, where's Mommy? I haven't seen Mommy for a long time."
Victoria was stunned. There had been no news from Yui for two full weeks now.
