On the edge of the big , flourishing lubin city, famous for its big paper
factories there was a quiet forgotten village called Rubin enriched with flora
and fona. Most of the villagers had long ago left for new opportunities and
brighter future in the City, leaving behind only a handful of old souls. These
were the elder who were loyal to their roots.
On a small hill of rubin village at east side , sharing a small river with forest
among few other similar hills lived a young boy named Dabi with his father.
He was the only child left in the village and all the villagers loved him as their
own grand child .They spoiled him with sweets and stories but somewhere
deep inside there was a quiet empty space inside Dabi. He had never know
his mother as his mother passed away giving birth to him . That's why even
though he was surrounded by love, he felt the absence of certain something.
His father was a lumberjack, a strong but quiet man loyal to his roots he
wasn't always quiet but the loss of his loving wife was quite a deep scar on
him , but that never stopped him from being a lovely kind father , but fearing
the world would take his son too, he built boundaries for Dabi keeping him
unaware of his mother and outside world.
One afternoon a family of lost travelers,a mother, a father and a little girl
stopped to ask directions met the boy the boy was not of any help to them
that's why Dabi called an village elder while following them back Dabi though
at first shyly asked the couple a number of questions,The questions were
endless but the couple answered all of them with patience and warmth that
of a parent.
It was from them Dabi first heared about the word " My Mother" coming outof the lips of the little girl.Filled with curiosity without any delay leaving the
couple Dabi rushed into woods the boy had only one question in his mind
and had forgotten about the boundaries. When Dabi's father saw his son's
face alight with a innocent question emerging from his lips " Dad!..Dad! ..
where's my mom?". Father's heart sank and mind went exploring endless
thoughts but how could he tell the cold truth of death to this pure innocent
child. He took a deep breath and with a thick breaking voice pointed towards
the top of a small hill next to their house and said" There,Son.. look.. that's
your mother, Watching over you".On the top of the small hill was a big tree
which was called cursed by the elders as in past decade it was lifeless and
hadn't bloomed. The boy believed the words of his father. From that day on
the empty space in Dabi's heart was filled by the tree.It became his mother
and his bestfriend. The boy would bring food, gifts and spend hours with the
tree, telling it about his days, secrets and sharing joys and wonders of his life.
Tree though remained still and silent but accepted all those kind gestures and
whenever the buy would take a nap under its shade it would sing him lullaby
by whistling it's leaves by the help of wind. This beautiful paradise of Dabi
always kept him happy and joyful.
However when Dabi turned fourteen and slowly-slowly the whispers of the
village and logic forced the truth upon him. The tree was just a tree, it couldn't
understand his feelings. The lie felt like a betrayal due to which his father he
stopped visiting his his little paradise. One night,Dabi having enough of this
prison left the village without any note , leaving his father and the paradise
behind heart broken and never return. But the tree waited, days turned into
months, months turned years and years into decades. The wind continued to
flow through, however the lullaby was no longer there as the tree had stopped
singing leaving the hill silent.
Then one day the old tree felt an similar presence , an old man in his 60's with
a came and a letter in other hand.Sat under his shade and with deep sigh andtears in eyes whispered to air " it was all my fault, please forgive me father,
iam sorry..." closed his eyes and placed his head in the old trees lap and let
go the letter in his hand the wind wasn't blowing that day the whole forest
was still and silent and so was the tree unable to recognise the man with
curiosity peeped at the content of letter. The letter looked decades old and
most of the content was missing as it was erased only few lines where
readable but the tree only read few words
" Dabi,my son .... Iam sorry... I am really really sorry.."
And with just that the tree gathered every last of his will and looked at the old
man but before he could reunite with his friend the old man took his last
breath under the warm embrace of the tree and with the parting words " iam
sorry, mom" left the old tree alone .The tree took a deep breath and left out a
last cry and with every bit of his life force summoned millions of tiny cream
colored flowers as it's crown and filled the air with sweet scent that of a
mother then bidding Farewell the talipot palm tree passed away soon
after rejoining the kid in heavens.
