Chapter 3 - Being looked down upon

I was furious, but there was nothing I could do; my father was already dead.

When I was a child, my father told me that I had a grandfather who owned a large estate in the countryside and was a wealthy man in the area. However, my grandfather disliked my father and kicked him out.

So, my grandfather must not have liked me very much either. But we were desperate, so the next day we went to my grandfather's house in the countryside.

After walking for a day, we finally arrived at Grandpa's estate. It was a very large estate, but by the time we got there, it was already dark.

They seemed to know we were coming and were waiting for me and Sister Xue.

My father told me that our Wu family was originally a large clan, but many things happened later, and the bloodline withered away.

My father also had an older brother who died in a car accident. His wife ran away, leaving behind two daughters who lived with my grandfather. Then there was my father's younger sister, my aunt, whose husband died some years ago. She took one daughter and went back to her parents' home.

Now that my father is dead, I've become the only son in the Wu family. Perhaps that's why my grandfather was willing to take me in.

However, I didn't see my grandfather that night because my aunt Wu Hui said it was too late and he was already asleep. She said I could talk to her about anything, and she specifically emphasized that I should ask her about everything.

This alluring woman is undoubtedly telling us to understand who truly owns this place.

My aunt also said that we came here because we had nowhere else to go, but the Wu family doesn't support idlers. If you want to eat, you have to work.

My uncle's two daughters were there, looking at my mother and me with disdain and deep disgust in their eyes.

Seeing this, I was furious and clenched my fists. It was obvious they didn't like us.

But Sister Xue gently took my hand and said to my aunt, "Okay, I'll remember."

Then my aunt said, "There are no extra rooms in the village for you. I have cleared out a woodshed for you to stay in. Move in tonight, and take care of everything yourself from now on."

Shortly after, we were taken to a dark woodshed. Perhaps people lived here a long time ago, but that was many years ago.

Looking at the dust and cobwebs covering the room, I was furious and wanted to lash out, but Sister Xue stopped me again.

After my aunt swayed her plump hips and left, I couldn't hold back any longer and asked Sister Xue, "Sister Xue, why didn't you let me argue with them? They were clearly bullying us."

Looking at the dilapidated state of the room, I felt increasingly frustrated.

But just then, a soft body gently hugged me and said, "We came here because we had nowhere else to go. We should be grateful to have a place to stay. As long as you are here, I believe everything will be alright."

Holding Xuejie in my arms, I smelled a familiar scent, a scent that seemed to be my mother's.

I reached out and put my arm around her slender waist, saying, "I'm a man, a little hardship or fatigue is nothing to me, I'm just worried about you..."

However, she covered my mouth with a finger as thin as a scallion root and said, "Don't say that. You are my only family in this world. For you, no amount of hardship or fatigue matters."

I didn't say anything for a long time, I just held her quietly.

There was only one bed in the house, and that night, she and I slept in the same bed...
