Chapter 30 - Sabotage!

[Profaned Step]

I entered the room of my first target.

But since he'll be my first actual target in this world, I'll try to be nice.

Well... as nice as someone can get when sabotaging someone.

"Out of the picture, huh?"

I muttered, my eyes roaming the room for anything useful, but... it was very average.

The student inside wasn't even an A-Rank, so sabotaging him shouldn't affect the ranking much.

Unless...? Taking him out would change the tournament matchups?

It was very likely that, while Evelina was a powerful dark mage, light attunement users remained a huge threat; they had a natural advantage, something that sometimes even raw talent and hard work couldn't overcome.

"Match fixing, huh?"

It reminded me of something I did once before when assassin rankings were being decided in my original world.

Also, a tournament, an unofficial and unorganized one, but a tournament nonetheless.

[Profaned Influence]

I snapped my fingers, spreading an undetectable miasma over the room.

It wasn't even that special of a spell; in fact, it was a very weak, average dark spell that could be found in any beginner's guide to dark magic.

But with my artifacts increasing my power exponentially, even something like this would work.

All it did? Reduce the motivation and energy of those affected by the influence, subtly causing a small fever that further solidifies its effects.

"And to make sure no one gets suspicious..."

I picked up a notebook from the desk and wrote a few demonic symbols in it, using magic to dry the ink quickly so it appeared as if it had been written a week ago.

"A simple framing."

[Profaned Flame]

"Can't forget to burn even the smallest evidence."

Small flickers of flame erupted from every surface I touched, burning away any possible proof that could lead to me.

While this world didn't have technology that could compromise me, the unpredictability of magic was still a threat.

And while the novel didn't specify any magic that could be used for detailed investigation, that didn't mean I could relax.

"First one down!"

I excitedly chuckled, crossing my arms to admire my handiwork.

[Profaned Step]

And with that, I was outside the room, leaning against the hallway's walls as I checked the window.

Multiple other students were already making their way back.

"Next should be 7A..."

It was just the floor above.

[Profaned Step]

"Let's see..."

I appeared right in front of the door, but I couldn't just wander in; there was still a slim chance someone could be inside.

[Soul Sight]

Having thoroughly scanned both a beginner's book and a special book about dark magic, I now possessed all the spells I needed.

'Photographic memory... oh how perfect you are...'

I chuckle, checking the room from the outside for any signs of life.

But there was none, or to be more accurate, no human life.

A dog, however, now that was something I didn't expect to see in a dorm room.

'Not sure why I'm surprised about that...'

I shrugged, tapping my chest twice.

[Light Manipulation]

Been a while since I used basic element manipulations, couldn't hurt to refresh my skills using my new attunement.

[Profaned Step]

I reappeared inside the dorm room, the dog inside barely even reacting.

The light manipulation I had cast in advance made it hard for others to see me. As for scent, the sheer demonic and divine aura that subtly surrounded me was enough to mask it.

'Now then...'

I looked around, seeing a huge, heavy bookshelf, an idea already forming in my mind.

'Since I'm done with being merciful, let's try something more fun...'

[Chaos Manipulation]

I smiled, placing a hand on the bookshelf and spreading chaos energy all around its wood.

Next was the dog.

[Profaned Prince]

If the tooltip was correct, then it should also grant me authority on a dog... right?

I leaned in close to the dog's ear, whispering, while I didn't speak really... dog, my special title should be enough.

"Make the bookshelf fall over once your owner returns..."

I stood up after whispering; all my preparations were now complete.

The reason for my preparations?

Well, once the owner returned, the dog would deliberately cause the bookshelf to topple and seriously injure the student, and with the chaotic energy around the bookshelf, any magic used for protection should malfunction.

Furthermore, because the student was injured by chaos energy, healing magic would be significantly weakened, leaving him crippled for at least a few months and preventing him from attending the tournament tomorrow.

"As for the reasoning on why chaos energy should even be present..."

I placed a hand over my mouth in thought.

But I decided that the simplest solution would be the best.

[Chaos Manipulation]

Simply creating a fake connection between the previous room I sabotaged and this one should be enough.

"Does it really count as merciful if I'm framing someone to be working with demons?"

I laugh, crossing my arms.

Now there was one more person left.
