I latched onto the jutting ledge at the cave entrance and hauled myself up into the shelter, icy water streaming down my body. I remained on all fours, taking slow, steady breaths as I let the chill permeate every part of me, fully subduing the unbearable heat from earlier.
I got to my feet and pulled the soaked clothes off my body as I stared out at the pouring storm. Some of the perpetual sprays splashed against my skin, but I remained there, letting the cold bite into me.
As I'd expected, the storm still hadn't budged hours after.
And it might go on for a day or two.
I wrung the water from the wet cloth and made my way deeper into the cave, spreading it beside her wet clothes on the drying fabric.
My eyes drifted to the tent where she slept.
I sighed and turned away, dressing quickly as I returned to my post against the wall.
I felt better. Clearer.
