Following the gate Izzy had opened, Agumon and the others entered the battlefield.
What greeted them was a barren wasteland. All the surrounding data had already been devoured by Infermon, leaving only a few tower-like data frames drifting and shifting restlessly through the void. Infermon crawled among those skeletal structures, looking all around as if searching for something it could consume next.
That conspicuous figure was spotted by Agumon and the others the instant they arrived.
"Finally found that bastard." Matt ground his teeth.
"Matt, charge straight in and go all the way to Mega!" Tai shouted.
"Agumon, warp Digivolve to WarGreymon!"
"Gabumon, warp Digivolve to MetalGarurumon!"
Golden and blue light flooded the computer screen. All over the world, kids crowded around their monitors, staring wide-eyed at the overwhelming scene playing out before them.
WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon rushed Infermon head-on, their steel bodies slamming into its body before it could even react. The impact sent Infermon spinning in place, completely unable to fight back.
"Nice one!" Izzy clenched his fists. They finally had a chance to erase this menace.
"Patamon should Digivolve too!" T.K. said, practically bouncing with impatience.
"Then let us join in as well," Tentomon suggested.
Seeing all this, Infermon took advantage of the brief gap between WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon's attacks and suddenly darted toward Patamon and the others just as they were about to Digivolve.
Halfway through that charge, its body started to change again. By the time it appeared before everyone once more, the Digimon standing there was already something completely different.
"It Digivolved again?" Matt's eyes went wide.
"That fast?!" Even Tai was stunned. Evolving at that speed was downright terrifying.
Diaboromon — hatched from a Digi-Egg formed by bugs and glitches gathered from all over the network. Starting from Kuramon, it gorged itself on data from across the net, evolving and growing larger at an incredible rate. In just a few dozen minutes it had forced its way up to the Mega level, wreaking havoc throughout the Digital World.
Having absorbed a vast amount of data and knowledge, Diaboromon believes itself to be an all-powerful existence, taking delight in destruction and slaughter. When countless Digimon like it appear, its true purpose becomes clear: to seize control of military computers and use nuclear strikes to annihilate the Real World. It's an extremely dangerous Digimon.
Its special move is Catastrophe Cannon, a massive destructive energy blast fired from the port in its chest.
Signature techniques:
Great Catastrophe – Fires a powerful energy beam from the chest launcher.
Power of Darkness – Absorbs surrounding data to massively enlarge its body and strike with countless arms.
Lost in Paradise – Unleashes all of its power at once to trigger self-destruction.
System Shutdown – Absorbs the energy of nearby Digimon and forcibly regresses them by one level.
Tentacle Exploit – Uses its tentacles to tear open glitches in the system, then drags enemies into those loopholes.
Claw Attack – Slashes the enemy with its claws.
Cable Crusher – Extends its long arms to smash enemies high above.
Cable Surge – Spreads both arms and spins at high speed, blowing everything around it away.
Page Atomizer – Curls its body into a ball and rolls along the ground, mowing down anything in its path.
Virus Download – Injects powerful viruses released from its claws into the enemy's body.
The freshly evolved Diaboromon immediately unleashed Cable Crusher. Its arms suddenly shot out, whipping through the air straight toward the nearest Patamon and Gatomon.
"Gaia Force!"
Battle-hardened WarGreymon reacted first, hastily hurling twin spheres of condensed energy at Diaboromon's extended arms. The blasts struck home, blowing the arms off course so they only grazed past Patamon and Gatomon.
MetalGarurumon responded right after, launching a barrage of Freeze Bombs from the belly hatch of his weapons bay. A storm of freezing missiles slammed into Diaboromon, entombing its body in ice.
"Brave Tornado!"
WarGreymon spun his body into a drill of whirling steel and light, slamming into the still-frozen Diaboromon and sending it crashing far into the distance.
"Everyone, Digivolve now!" Tentomon immediately realized this was their chance.
"Right!"
"Let's all jump straight up to Ultimate!" Tai called.
"Biyomon, Warp Digivolve to Garudamon!"
"Tentomon, Warp Digivolve to MegaKabuterimon!"
"Patamon, Warp Digivolve to MagnaAngemon!"
"Gatomon, Digivolve to Angewomon!"
Kids watching the livestream across the network were already stunned, but while WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon could just barely be processed as "the two legendary Mega Digimon," the sudden appearance of the angel-type Digimon Angewomon and MagnaAngemon completely blew their minds.
"They're angels!" countless children gasped.
"Go, Angewomon!"
"Go, Garudamon!"
"Go, MagnaAngemon!"
"Go, MegaKabuterimon!"
The partner children cheered on their freshly joined Digimon with everything they had.
"Horn Buster!"
MegaKabuterimon charged first, his massive horn aimed straight at Diaboromon. Diaboromon's two arms shot out and, with frightening ease, caught MegaKabuterimon's horn mid-charge.
"What strength…" Izzy breathed. MegaKabuterimon's Horn Buster possessed terrifying impact power — even WarGreymon couldn't usually take it head-on this casually.
"Shadow Wing!"
Beside them, Garudamon's wings became blades of supersonic vacuum, slicing into Diaboromon's chest and knocking its upper body off balance. Taking advantage of that opening, MegaKabuterimon twisted his body and drove his horn hard into Diaboromon's chest. The force of the blow sent Diaboromon hurtling backward.
"Heaven's Gate!"
The holy sword in MagnaAngemon's right hand traced a circle behind Diaboromon, opening a golden portal into another dimension. Diaboromon, still sliding backward, dug in with all its might and clung desperately to the edge of the gate.
"Celestial Arrow!"
Angewomon drew back her glowing bow and loosed a shaft of pure holy light. The sacred radiance pierced Diaboromon, wringing a cry of pain from its throat.
"Gaia Force!"
"Absolute Zero Freeze!"
WarGreymon's energy sphere and MetalGarurumon's freezing blast slammed into Diaboromon's chest, detonating in a massive explosion. Under Diaboromon's despairing gaze, its body was swallowed up by Heaven's Gate and dragged into the depths of that golden void. The gate, etched with intricate golden patterns, swung shut — sealing Diaboromon away in another dimension.
"We did it!" Kari and Sora hugged each other, jumping up in excitement.
Tai and Izzy both let out a long breath. At last, they'd taken down this troublesome enemy.
"Okay, everyone, let's go. We'll head to the human world to see Tai and the others first, then go back to the Digital World," WarGreymon suggested.
"Yeah!" x5.
The six Digimon flew toward the portal Izzy had opened, eager to hurry to the human world and see their partners again.
"Catastrophe Cannon!"
Four blood-red energy spheres suddenly streaked toward WarGreymon, MetalGarurumon, Angewomon, Garudamon, MagnaAngemon, and MegaKabuterimon.
The battle had just ended — or so they'd thought. WarGreymon and the others had relaxed their guard, never imagining another surprise attack. Faced with this sudden bombardment, they had no time at all to defend.
Boom!
Boom!
WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon were hit directly, their bodies swallowed by roaring fire. Angewomon, Garudamon, MagnaAngemon, and MegaKabuterimon fared even worse — they were blasted into the nearby tower frames and slammed hard into the structures, taking such heavy damage that they couldn't even stand, much less move, for the moment.
"Ha ha ha!"
Laughing wildly, Diaboromon shot forward at terrifying speed, instantly closing in on Angewomon, Garudamon, MagnaAngemon, and MegaKabuterimon. Its long arms snapped out and seized them, then it triggered System Shutdown.
Streams of light flowed from Angewomon, Garudamon, MagnaAngemon, and MegaKabuterimon into Diaboromon's body. Bathed in that glow, all four Digimon were forcibly regressed back down to their Champion forms.
"Patamon!"
"Tentomon!"
"Gatomon!"
"Biyomon!"
Seeing their partners so badly injured, the children's hearts twisted in pain. Even though their bodies ached everywhere, the Digimon still forced themselves to lift their heads and reassure their partners.
"Gatomon…" Kari's eyes brimmed with tears as she stared at Gatomon. On the other side, T.K. was already sobbing outright, which only made Tai and Matt's anger flare hotter.
"How dare you hurt them… WarGreymon! MetalGarurumon!" Matt and Tai roared their orders in unison.
WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, snapping fully back to their senses, responded with furious roars of their own.
"WarGreymon, battle mode change!"
"MetalGarurumon, warrior mode change!"
With their fighting power released to one hundred percent, WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon's speed spiked even higher.
"Garuru Cannon!"
The Garuru Cannon mounted on MetalGarurumon's left arm fired a single blast of icy energy, freezing Diaboromon solid in an instant.
"Urgh—ah!"
WarGreymon raised his right hand. The Digicode etched along the Blade of the Brave flared to life, the sword shining with the anger of everyone behind him as he drove it straight into the still-frozen Diaboromon.
Shnnk!
The glowing blade pierced Diaboromon's forehead. With a powerful swing, WarGreymon cleaved Diaboromon cleanly in two. The Mega's body broke apart into scattered data and dissipated into nothing.
Even so, WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon refused to lower their guard. After all, they'd just sealed Diaboromon inside another dimension — and it had still come back.
"WarGreymon, escort Gatomon and the others back. Datamon, open a Transfer Gate to the human world through the central computer and send them through. From here on, this is going to be a battle between Mega-level Digimon," Tai ordered.
WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon took up positions on either side of the portal, standing guard as they covered Gatomon and the others' retreat from the battlefield.
Sure enough, several more blood-red energy spheres streaked toward Tentomon and the others as they were leaving — only to be intercepted by the already-prepared WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon.
Following the trajectory of those blasts back to their source, they saw two Diaboromon standing atop the tower frames, laughing that infuriating "ha ha ha" that made everyone's blood boil.
