Chapter 23 - Awake

Or is she just being tsundere? You have to be direct and assertive with tsunderes.

Do it or not? If not, I'll do you!

After a long while, Sylvanas pushed the prince away, her red lips swollen from being kissed. She said, annoyed:

"I'm here to tell you that the undead have already gathered outside and are preparing to attack the city!"

As a high elf ranger-general, she had four abilities. Besides the Trueshot Aura she taught Arthas, another was a scouting ability.

It summoned an owl, a combination of Arcane and nature, to monitor an area, allowing the spellcaster to see everything that happened there through the owl.

Even inside Hearthglen, Sylvanas could clearly see everything happening outside.

She wasn't familiar with the army, so she could only come to Arthas.

"I understand, Sylvanas. It's truly good to have you here. My promise still stands. I will marry you, and my descendants and I will forge an eternal friendship with the high elves, helping each other."

Arthas solemnly promised. Everyone has something they care about, and what Sylvanas cared about was her kin.

Prince Arthas was still a man of good character; he wouldn't just pull up his pants and deny his word.

Looking at the young prince's handsome face and resolute demeanor, even Sylvanas, who was accustomed to seeing handsome high elves, felt ripples in her heart.

From fated hatred to now fighting side by side, was this destiny?

It's not bad at all!

Just then, the quest panel updated.

This was the fifth mission of the Human campaign.

'Main Quest: Battle of Hearthglen'

'Quest Objective: No need to send Jaina to deliver a message. Hold Hearthglen until dawn, until Uther leads the Silver Hand to arrive.'

'Quest Reward: Unlock the Mysterious Vault building and the Book Vendor function.'

The Mysterious Vault was the Human building's shop, where various trinkets could be purchased, the most useful being Fireballs and Town Portal Scrolls.

But the Book Vendor was the soul of it all!

Books could increase Strength, Agility, Intelligence, and Life, and there were also Books of Experience to provide leveling.

Strength increased maximum health, attack power, and health regeneration rate.

Agility increased armor defense, a slight amount of attack power, and attack speed.

Intelligence increased maximum mana, mana regeneration rate, slightly increased spellcasting speed, and reduced skill cooldowns.

This reward was not bad; with the Book Vendor, one could exchange gold for attributes.

In a word, just pay to win!

Suddenly, shouts of battle erupted in the town. It seemed some people in the houses had turned into ghouls!

ghouls bursting through doors clashed with patrolling guards, and more civilians, unable to contain their panic, ran into the streets, pursued by ghouls that had once been their relatives.

The watchtowers outside blared alarms, and huge boulders flew from a distance, knocking down a section of a watchtower.

Mograine, experienced and shrewd, immediately organized his soldiers for defense, blocking the undead army attacking under the cover of night.

Seeing the prince suddenly perk up, Sylvanas was a bit confused and tentatively asked:

"Arthas, are you alright?"

She tried to reach out her soft hand and grasp his large one, wanting to offer him some comfort.

She was truly worried that anger would affect the prince. A commander couldn't lose his reason due to anger; that would only lead the army into an abyss of no return.

"I'm fine. This plague was never just about killing; it was about turning my people into undead servants from the very beginning."

"Lordaeron is just the beginning. Soon, other kingdoms, and even Quel'Thalas, will experience this."

"By then, I hope you can promise me that if you have to go back for rescue, you will wait for me and go with me. I don't want you to become undead!"

Arthas looked at the golden-haired woman with the big waves in front of him. He had no peculiar fetishes, so naturally, he felt nothing for the undead.

Compared to dealing with the undead, he would truly rather deal with trolls, tauren, or even Naga.

At least the latter were intelligent beings. What were the undead? They were corpses!

Sylvanas recalled that painful memory again, a memory where she herself had become an undead banshee, personally slaughtering her sisters and kin.

The dream was so real, as if it were herself from another timeline. She didn't want to become an undead banshee.

She tightly squeezed the prince's large hand and nodded very solemnly.

"Alright, I promise you. Wherever I go, I will tell you."

Arthas shook his head, looking at the high elf beauty with an undeniable domineering gaze.

"No, you must be accompanied by me to return. Trust me, this damned fate will be broken by me!"

Although the prince was still very weak, not even strong, he gave her an indescribable sense of peace, as if with him, everything would be alright.

She leaned forward and wrapped her arms around his strong waist, resting her head on his shoulder. Perhaps this was destiny?

At this moment, a voice drifted over, carrying a hint of displeasure.

"Did I wake up at a bad time?"

Arthas, however, turned around and extended an invitation to her.

"No, you woke up at just the right time."

Regardless of Jaina's willingness, she was forcibly pulled over, one on each side, embracing both.

Ignoring the events outside, Arthas recounted a story about how he was lured into corruption, became a death knight, and even committed patricide and destroyed his kingdom.

During this, he also spoke of how he inhumanely attacked Quel'Thalas and used the Sunwell to resurrect Kel'Thuzad.

He didn't get to talk about The Burning Legion afterward because Falric, the captain of the guard, knocked on the door.

Jaina had never heard of such a strange dream before. Looking at Sylvanas, she also nodded, saying she had experienced the same dream.

This was indeed peculiar, and it was no wonder a high elf ranger-general would fall in love with her fiancé.

Though she felt uncomfortable, she still accepted the fact. At least she didn't consider the other woman a threat.

"Let's put aside matters of the heart for now. We must first resolve the threat to Hearthglen and hold out until dawn, when the Silver Hand knights will arrive."

Arthas breathed a sigh of relief. The bliss of having two women was not so easy to manage. Fortunately, he had learned a trick: sincerity was the ultimate move!

Jaina changed into her mage robe and stood shoulder to shoulder with Sylvanas.

"We await your command, my prince."

The two were assigned to assist in defending the main gate, as the battlefield was where they could truly shine.

Arthas relieved Mograine and, along with Lord Taelan, began clearing out the ghouls in the city.

Anyone infected with the plague was thrown into prison, ghouls were killed, and laborers were instructed to collect and burn the bones to prevent Necromancers from reanimating the undead.

Actually, the best method would have been to kill the infected civilians, but even if they were infected with the plague, before they mutated, they were still civilians.

Massacring civilians would have too negative an impact, something Arthas would not do. Instead, he left it to the hot-tempered Mograine.

How could prince Arthas take the blame?
