Jhin: "Satania, do you have a moment? Want to go try some Hell-Spicy Ramen?"
The great archdemon: "Hell-Spicy Ramen? I've never had that before. Is it even better than your cooking?"
Jhin: "I'm not too sure about that, but if you try it and like it, I can make it for you."
The great archdemon: "Deal!"
Jhin remembered that Satania liked spicy food, so he decided to take her to try the Hell-Spicy Ramen.
"Gabriel, I'm heading out for a bit." Jhin announced to the golden object on his bed. "You should call someone to fix your air conditioner soon."
"I know," Gabriel replied, feeling the constant stream of cold air from the AC. She even wanted to suggest to Heaven that the person who invented air conditioning be ascended to paradise after their death, but she didn't know their name.
"Where are you going?"
"To eat super-spicy ramen with Satania."
"Satania? Super-spicy?" Hearing those two keywords, Gabriel felt a little tempted to tag along and watch. What kind of expression would that idiot demon make after eating super-spicy ramen?
Gabriel had witnessed Jhin's ability to handle spicy food. Dishes like stir-fried pork with peppers, Sichuan boiled beef, and even steamed chili peppers—he could eat them all without batting an eye, even calling them exhilarating.
Especially the steamed chili peppers. She had only eaten a small piece, and the chili seeds stuck to it, combined with the pepper itself, delivered a sour-spicy sensation that had nearly made her black out. She had to chug several cartons of ice-cold milk just to quell the spiciness that shot straight to the top of her head.
After today, I wonder if I'll ever see that idiot demon again?
The allure of the air conditioning was simply too great. In the end, Gabriel gave up on the idea of going with Jhin for the spectacle and instead asked, "When will Nymph be back?"
"Probably not until this afternoon."
"Got it."
"Don't tell me you want to ask Nymph to help you improve your fighting game skills, Gabriel?" Jhin looked at her with pity. She was a Universal Angel for Electronic Warfare. The moment the game started, she'd probably already calculated the very posture you'd lose in. You wouldn't even know how you lost, so how could you possibly improve?
As for how Jhin knew this, well, that's another sad story.
"Hey, Jhin! Over here!" Satania waved at him enthusiastically. Today, she was wearing a red-and-white striped sleeveless hoodie and denim shorts, her cute face full of excitement. "Where is this super-spicy ramen place you were talking about?"
"It's nearby. Are you hot? Want a cold drink?"
Satania grabbed Jhin's arm, eager to try the food she'd never had before. "No, no, let's just go!"
Seeing her dragging him forward without even knowing where they were going, Jhin couldn't help but laugh. "Satania, do you know the exact location?"
"Ah? Oh, right. You lead the way." Satania's face flushed slightly. She let go of Jhin, ran behind him, and started pushing him forward.
What a strong push... wait, is this how you have someone lead the way?
After a few twists and turns, Jhin led Satania into a shop called "Super-Spicy Noodle House". He unhesitatingly ordered two bowls of Hell-Spicy Ramen, causing the surrounding customers to shake their heads repeatedly.
Here come another two kids who don't know their own limits.
Jhin ignored their stares. Are you kidding me? In my past life, what spicy dish haven't I tried? Even the street-side malatang with added capsaicin extract couldn't make me admit defeat. A mere Hell-Spicy Ramen, how spicy can it possibly be?
Although, after he finished that bowl of malatang, he was up all night with a stomachache.
Soon, two steaming bowls of Hell-Spicy Ramen were placed before them. The broth was a blackish-red, much like lava just erupted from a volcano. The thin white noodles visible on the surface resembled white bones about to sink into the magma, and the beef slices on the side were like flesh torn from those bones. Even before a single bite, the sight alone was enough to intimidate some challengers.
Jhin picked up his chopsticks and lifted the noodles that had been soaking the longest at the bottom. The originally thin, white noodles were now completely coated in a layer of red broth, looking as if they'd been made with carrot juice.
Without the slightest hesitation, he put the noodles into his mouth. They were chewy and hadn't gone soft from soaking at the bottom. The meaty flavor of the broth was exceptionally rich; if Jhin wasn't mistaken, it was a beef bone base.
The spiciness arrived late, only after Jhin had swallowed the noodles. A burning sensation spread from the tip of his tongue to his entire mouth, but for Jhin, it was still far from unbearable.
Satania took her first bite, her eyebrows shot up, and her red eyes sparkled with pleasant surprise.
As expected of Jhin, who's so good at cooking. The food he recommends is perfectly suited to my tastes.
One mouthful after another, Satania shoveled the broth-coated noodles into her mouth. Beads of sweat gradually appeared on her forehead. After finishing all the noodles, she even drank a sip of the soup before comfortably putting down her chopsticks. "Ahh~ That was so satisfying."
"Satania, wipe your sweat." Jhin promptly handed her a napkin.
"Oh, thanks." Satania took the napkin and wiped her face, only to notice with surprise that the bowl in front of Jhin had already been cleared away. "You finished even faster than me?"
"Well, I am a guy. It's natural I'd eat a bit faster."
"True. This ramen you recommended was really delicious." Satania patted Jhin's shoulder in encouragement. "This future great archdemon is very satisfied. You can recommend more things in the future."
The other customers, who had been expecting Jhin and Satania to end up in tears from the spiciness, were now so shocked their jaws were about to hit the table.
Those two are chatting as if nothing happened? Do they even have pain receptors?
"Congratulations on completing the challenge. Here is your five-hundred-yen prize." The shop owner handed Jhin a paper envelope.
"Satania, let's split it."
"Oh, okay..." Satania had never imagined she could get prize money just for coming out to eat a bowl of ramen with Jhin. Staring at the unexpected windfall in her hand, she wasn't sure what to do with it for a moment.
"Oh, right, Jhin, come over to my place later," Satania said, an invitation that left Jhin completely baffled.
"Is something up?"
"I heard from Gabriel that you're really good at fighting games."
"I am. Don't tell me you want to improve your gaming skills?"
"Of course! The great archdemon of the future can't keep stumbling in the same place." Although Satania crossed her arms and tried to project an air of dignity, her words revealed the fact that Gabriel had been wiping the floor with her.
"I get it. Let's go, then."
Hearing Jhin agree, Satania immediately jumped up from her chair and excitedly dragged him towards her home.
A security camera on the street corner swiveled to follow the two figures until they disappeared from its range, at which point it returned to its original position.
Kazami Kazuki leaned lazily on a beanbag chair. The computer screen displayed the feed from that very camera; it was part of a system she had Nymph create for her a while ago, using her status as Jhin's older sister.
Its purpose, of course, was to observe what her adorable little brother was up to today.
After all, Kazami Kazuki believed that most people in the world were boring—so boring they made her want to sleep. Watching her little brother was far more meaningful. As his older sister, ensuring he grew up healthy and safe was her most important duty and responsibility.
Of course, monitoring his development was equally important.
