Chapter 15 - The risk is lower than you think

Boom!

A loud bang echoed in the distance, and a gust of wind swept down from above, bringing with it Dragon, and a man with blood at the corner of his mouth, whom he held—the Beyonder who had just tried to escape after drinking the Assassin potion.

Gulp!

Although Luo Yan knew Dragon was strong, witnessing it firsthand still made him swallow, knowing that after the assassin merged into the shadows, he couldn't find him at all, but he didn't expect Dragon to catch him so easily.

"The assassin's ability to merge into shadows doesn't seem to evade Observation Haki."

Luo Yan forced himself to calm down and spoke in a questioning tone. Dragon nodded, casually dropping the assassin he was holding. The assassin, seemingly having suffered a massive blow, curled up on the ground, unable to move.

The Beyonder who had drunk the Sailor potion, seeing this, swallowed with difficulty, not daring to entertain any thought of escape.

"We've already obtained the intelligence we wanted. They're useless now. You just said that Beyonder characteristics don't disappear. I want to see how you retrieve the potion from their corpses."

Dragon directly sentenced the two captives to death. The assassin showed no reaction, but the Sailor trembled all over with fear. He opened his mouth, seemingly wanting to beg for mercy, but before he could speak, a gust of wind blew directly at him, and then his head flew into the air, blood gushing out like a fountain.

Thump!

The Sailor's headless body fell to the ground. The assassin's head rolled to the side due to the slight tremor. It was unclear when his head had separated from his neck, but for some reason, there wasn't much bleeding.

Specks of light began to gather on the two bodies. The assassin's light converged on his chest, and the Sailor's light converged on his arm. Soon, the light finished gathering, forming a black disc and a light blue gelatinous mass.

Luo Yan picked up the two Beyonder characteristics, wrapped them in spirituality, and carefully placed them in a compartment of his briefcase.

"What was just extracted isn't a potion; I call it a 'Beyonder characteristic.' It can be used as the main ingredient for a potion. You just need to add some auxiliary materials to re-concoct it into a potion. Of course, you can also eat it directly. A Sequence 9 Beyonder characteristic won't cause much trouble even if swallowed raw. For Sequence 8, I think it's likely fine too, but for Sequence 7 and above, there will be problems; you absolutely cannot eat them raw randomly."

"It forms directly on the corpse... meaning it's not easily lost. As long as the corpse can be recovered, the potion can be recovered?"

"That's right, but if the corpse can't be recovered, it means the Beyonder characteristic will fall into enemy hands."

Dragon nodded, then suddenly fell into thought, his brow furrowing almost imperceptibly.

The experiment just now only tested the risks of consuming potions. The final answer was much better than Dragon had expected. He knew very well what kind of people these two captives were before and what they had experienced after being captured. Therefore, he believed that if these two captives could withstand the potion, then the elite Revolutionary Army members he would specifically select in the future would certainly be able to withstand it. Now, what he cared about most was the so-called monsters.

"What exactly is this 'losing control and turning into a monster' you speak of? It's a pity I no longer have any captives on my ship."

Luo Yan chuckled lightly, bent down, and took out another bottle of potion from his briefcase.

"What's so difficult about that? Just catch an animal and let it drink the potion. Animals have lower intelligence than humans, and after drinking the potion, they don't know how to stabilize their minds or restrain their spirituality, making them more likely to turn into monsters."

"Animals can also drink potions?"

Dragon was somewhat surprised, yet not overly so. Luo Yan first nodded, then immediately shook his head.

"Not only can animals drink potions, but anything can drink potions. In fact, if a potion isn't consumed in time after being concocted, the bottle it's in will slowly consume it."

This time, Dragon was shocked. Animals being able to drink potions wasn't that unbelievable, after all, animals could also eat devil fruit. But for inanimate objects to be able to drink potions, the meaning was different.

"Even inanimate objects can drink potions?"

"Of course, I call those 'magical items.' I have quite a few on hand; I can demonstrate them to you later."

"Alright, wait a moment."

Dragon didn't delay, his figure suddenly vanished, and in less than ten seconds, he reappeared, now holding a seabird with black and white feathers, crimson legs, and a black, long beak.

"Is this alright?" Dragon asked, handing the seabird to Luo Yan.

"No problem."

Luo Yan nodded, taking the seabird. He didn't pour the potion in; instead, he used his water control ability to turn the potion into a golden stream that flowed into the seabird's mouth.

After the potion completely entered the seabird's mouth, the seabird, no longer restrained, flapped its wings in Luo Yan's hand, but no matter how much it flapped, it couldn't fly.

Luo Yan naturally didn't dare to let the seabird mutate in his hand, so he quickly placed it on the ground and then moved away.

Time passed slowly. A small tuft of golden down grew on the seabird's head, and the tips of its wing and tail feathers also gained a layer of golden trim.

"This! How is this possible!"

Luo Yan's eyes widened, his face filled with disbelief.

That the seabird withstood the potion was beyond Dragon's expectation, but his reaction wasn't as extreme as Luo Yan's; he merely raised an eyebrow slightly.

"The risk of consuming potions seems lower than I imagined."

"What?! What do you know?! What I just gave it wasn't a Sequence 9 potion, but a Sequence 8 potion! This isn't scientific, no! This isn't even mysticism! Where did you catch this bird from?!"

To ensure the seabird wouldn't withstand the potion and would mutate into a monster, Luo Yan had specifically given it the Sun Pathway Sequence 8 Guang Ren potion. Yet, the seabird had actually withstood it, directly becoming a Sequence 8.

"Sequence 8? Is it possible to directly consume Sequence 8 without consuming Sequence 9 first?"

"Of course not! Uh... it's not absolutely impossible, but directly consuming a Sequence 8 potion increases the risk of losing control by several, or even more than ten, times. That's why my reaction was so strong just now."

"The risk of consuming potions is lower than I imagined..."

Dragon murmured, repeating the same words in a low voice, then looked at the seabird, which had already stood up from the ground.

"What do you plan to do with it?"

Luo Yan furrowed his brows in thought. He was naturally inclined to recover the characteristic, as this bird was temporarily caught, and if it escaped, it would be a huge loss. However, this bird was able to withstand the shock of directly consuming a Sequence 8 potion, which clearly made it somewhat special, and killing it just like that felt a bit regrettable.
