Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: Developing a Learning Device

Exp. Share: The latest product developed by Devon Corporation. A Pokémon wearing this device can learn and automatically gain training effects and experience when other Pokémon train and cultivate within a hundred-meter radius. Steven was very satisfied with your hospitality last night, and he decided to give you this precious device as a gift.

Kawaki took the Exp. Share off Growlithe's head and carefully examined the device, which resembled an alien helmet.

"Automatically gaining experience within a hundred-meter radius…"

The hundred-meter range limit made Kawaki abandon the idea of leveling up by watching battles.

However, it was enough.

This effect was much stronger than the one in the game!

In the earlier generations of the game, a Pokémon holding an Exp. Share could only gain experience from one battle.

But with this effect, it was clear that as long as Growlithe was within a hundred-meter radius, it could gain experience no matter how many Pokémon battles occurred.

This also meant that, given enough battles, Growlithe's "level" would skyrocket at rocket speed.

Moreover, there was an unstated unwritten rule: the stronger the Pokémon on both sides of the battle, the more experience Growlithe would gain.

If there was anywhere in the Pokémon world where battles happened most frequently…

Several names came to Kawaki's mind.

Gyms, battlefields in cities, and the venues for League conferences.

But there was still a problem.

It was unlikely he could leave the Breeding House and have his Pokémon idle-leveling next to a Gym.

Besides, there was no Gym in Fallarbor Town either…

And, he couldn't just change professions midway and open a martial arts dojo, could he?

Kawaki pondered for a moment and quickly thought of a solution.

Since that was the case, he could only attract Trainers to battle at his Breeding House!

So, early the next morning, Trainers leaving Meteor Falls for Fallarbor Town saw a banner hanging by the roadside Breeding House.

The words on the banner drew many people to stop and look.

"Kawaki Breeding House is about to host the 'King's Ring Challenge'! The Trainer who ultimately wins and successfully defends the ring will receive a super rare and highly talented Pokémon Egg!"

"No registration fee required, any Pokémon owner can participate! Besides the Egg, you can also win a mysterious grand prize from the owner! Those interested can register with Bewear!"

The deliberately exaggerated wording quickly caught the attention of these Trainers.

In an instant, everyone's gaze locked onto the eight big words: "super rare, highly talented."

If anything could attract these Trainers, it was definitely rare and uncommon Pokémon!

Initially, only two or three people entered the shop to inquire.

But soon, the number increased to over a dozen.

Since Fallarbor Town was the venue for Contests, and it was also near the two famous exploration spots, Mt. Chimney and Meteor Falls, almost every day, a large number of Pokémon Trainers gathered in the town.

And just like in the anime, they stayed at the Pokémon Center in Fallarbor Town.

Word spread quickly.

Soon, almost all the Trainers in the entire Pokémon Center knew that a nearby Breeding House was about to host a ring challenge, and the ultimate grand prize was an incredibly rare Pokémon.

Trainers' nature was to love a good spectacle.

For a time, Kawaki Breeding House was almost overflowing with people.

And when these Trainers saw the interior of the Breeding House, they were even more astonished, their mouths agape.

"It's Clefairy!"

"So, so many Clefairy!"

"Those are very hard-to-encounter Pokémon!"

"They're eating cream cake, wow! How cute!"

"That Pokémon is a Pokémon I've never seen before!" someone said, pointing at Bewear.

"Idiot! That's a Pokémon from the Alola region, of course you haven't seen it!"

The Trainers gathered in the hall, chatting animatedly.

Kawaki watched this scene with a slight smile.

In fact, no registration fee was just a gimmick.

His family ran a hotel, so if so many people gathered to chat, what would happen if they got thirsty or hungry while talking?

They would just have to buy drinks and food from the shop.

Under the Trainers' surprised gazes, the Clefairy waiters served them juice one by one.

In just one morning, the Breeding House received a very considerable income.

Some Trainers, for convenience in participating in the ring challenge, directly stayed at the shop, filling all six guest rooms.

Not only that, this ring challenge even directly boosted the Breeding House's business.

Many people boarded their Pokémon here, wanting them to learn a certain move.

Kawaki accepted all of them; for him, it was just a matter of thought.

On the day the ring challenge began, Kawaki couldn't help but curl his lips as he looked at the hundred-plus Trainers before him.

Not too many, but enough.

Growlithe, wearing the Exp. Share, squatted to the side, excitedly watching the scene.

"Watch carefully, learn well," Kawaki told him.

"Woof woof!" Growlithe responded, wagging his tail.

Kawaki stepped forward and said to the crowd, "Welcome everyone to the first King's Ring Challenge at Kawaki Breeding House. I am the owner, Kawaki."

"The ring challenge is about to begin, but before that, I need to introduce the rules of the competition to everyone."

"The competition is divided into the defender and the challenger. Each person can use a maximum of six Pokémon. Of course, if you are confident enough and believe you can defeat six opponents with one, you can also send out only one Pokémon."

"The challenger needs to defeat all six of the defender's Pokémon to take their place. After each match, the defender can use any method to restore their Pokémon's stamina."

"Everyone, prove your strength to everyone, defeat a hundred opponents, become the strongest king of this ring challenge, and win the ultimate grand prize!"

As his words fell, the Trainers' blood boiled simultaneously.

Although some knew that appearing later in this type of ring challenge would give them an advantage, some still couldn't resist the feat and achievement of "defeating a hundred opponents with one," and the first one stepped forward.

"I'll go first!"

It was a boy of about fifteen or sixteen years old. He scanned the entire venue with a domineering gaze, and with a flick of his right hand, a beam of white light shot out from a Poké Ball.

From within the white light, a majestic, strong, and handsome Blaziken appeared before everyone.

The boy's face showed a determined expression. His Blaziken's ability was Speed Boost, which would only make it stronger and stronger in this continuous battle!

"Hmph, don't get too happy too soon!" From the crowd, a blue-haired girl stepped forward and stood opposite the boy: "Come out, my partner!"

The girl threw a Poké Ball, and the Pokémon that appeared from within the light was a Slaking!

Watching this scene, Kawaki narrowed his eyes.

He watched this scene with great interest, taking on the role of an audience member with Growlithe, Chingling, Bewear, and a group of Clefairy holding popcorn.

Blaziken vs. Slaking, was the first match already this exciting?

However, an exciting match was good; that way, Growlithe could gain even more experience.
