Staying married to Haley Slater was the logical choice. It meant that she did not have to worry about Prince Victor of Aria, and that Deacon himself did not have to get into an arranged marriage with Ashely Greene.
In that respect their marriage was great, it was wonderful. But in the few days since the two of them had been living together Deacon had come to a realization that was not shocking in the least. He had been right (which he often was), marriage truly was not for him. Living with another human being would have been difficult and Deacon was certain of that.
But there was no convincing him that his ordeal of living with someone was not made even worse by the fact that, that someone was Haley Slater. She was so very stubborn. So difficult and it had quickly dawned on Deacon that sometimes she was that way even when she was not trying to be contrary. The two of them just clashed simply by being themselves.
