"Thoughts"
The soft whistle stopped, replaced by the crushing blow of desperation in (T/N)'s chest. Chloe had anticipated his escape.
He was trapped. Between her and the route to the subway, there was no way out. His legs, which moments ago had been his hope for escape, now refused to move.
— (T/N): How... how did you know I would come this way?
Chloe's smile widened, but the sweetness never reached her eyes, which glowed with predatory anticipation.
— Chloe: Did you really think I would let you go? Please, (T/N). I know you like the silence and that you don't want to be bothered, but it's very cruel to leave without me.
But the way she said it, that certainty about his movements, was chilling. She knew him. But, since when?
— (T/N): I don't have time for this. I need to go.
He tried to move to the left, toward the main street, but Chloe moved with terrifying speed, blocking his path with her own body. Her attitude shifted from playful to implacable in an instant.
— Chloe: No. You promised me we would go together. You can't just break your promise. That's very cruel, (T/N).
The use of the word "cruel" was a subtle manipulation that infuriated him.
— (T/N): I didn't promise you anything! You just cornered me until I said yes. And let me tell you something, Chloe!
The name came out with more force than he intended. He saw a brief flash of surprise, or perhaps annoyance, on Chloe's perfect face, but it vanished immediately.
— Chloe: Yes, (T/N)? What were you going to tell me?
(T/N) "It's now or never. I have to find out if she knows something."
He took a breath, his heart pounding like a drum. He had to prove that he had traveled back in time, that what happened yesterday was real, even the accident.
— (T/N): Listen! I may sound like a madman, but I had a subway accident yesterday. Some jerk pushed me onto the tracks and instead of dying, I traveled back in time. I know it's hard to believe, but what I'm saying is true. I think the accident triggered something in you, and that's why your attitude has completely changed.
He fell silent, waiting to see fear, confusion, or even panic on her face. Something that showed she believed him.
Chloe stared at him intently. Her ruby eyes, framed by her blonde hair, evaluated his every word. Then, her smile returned, wider, sweeter, and therefore, more unsettling.
— Chloe: Wow, (T/N). Are you saying you had a very vivid dream? Studies can stress you out a lot.
She tilted her head, her expression now one of pure concern.
— Chloe: Were you dreaming about the subway? That's a very common nightmare. Look, that's why it's good that we walk to school together. That way I can make sure you're okay. And so you don't dream such nasty things.
Her denial wasn't a nervous lie; it was absolute calm. It was as if the truth he had shouted carried no weight in her reality.
— (T/N): It's not a dream! Everything I'm saying is true.
— Chloe: You're asking me to believe you? — She pretended to think, placing a finger on her chin. — I think you're just acting a little strange. But don't worry, I can help you see how wonderful your life is, alright?
She moved closer to him, and this time, the movement was not subtle. She reached out and grabbed (T/N)'s wrist, pulling him gently, but with a force that left no room for resistance.
— Chloe: Enough talk about dreams and subways. Come on, (T/N). You promised to go with me, didn't you? And (T/N), remember...
She lowered her voice to a terrifying whisper that chilled (T/N)'s blood.
— Chloe: ...Don't ever try to abandon me again. It's very cruel when someone you appreciate treats you that way.
As he was dragged along by her, (T/N) felt the mark on his arm (the one he had seen in the bathroom mirror) throb painfully. He realized that his attempt to tell the truth had miserably failed. Not only did she not believe him, but he had given Chloe the confirmation that he remembered the subway accident.
Now, he was completely at her mercy, walking toward a school that was his prison, and alongside a girl who was his jailer.
