Sally's POV
The back door slams shut with a finality that makes my heart clench. Karl, Sean, and Ajax disappear into the darkness together, leaving me standing in the doorway like a fool. I wait longer than I should, hoping someone might turn around, might decide they can't leave me behind tonight. But the silence stretches on, empty and cold.
My throat tightens as I finally step back inside. I want them here with me. They're supposed to be my mates, the ones who complete me, who make everything feel right just by existing in the same space. Without them, this house feels hollow, too quiet, even with Philip nearby and Warren sleeping safely upstairs.
I know I shouldn't feel sorry for myself. This is about protection, about keeping Warren and me alive while hunters circle like vultures. They're out there putting themselves at risk while I get to stay warm and secure. I should be grateful.
But that doesn't stop this ache from spreading through my chest.
