When I convinced Zayden to bring his mother and lift Charles' curse, I expected weeks of waiting. Maybe months of negotiation before that stubborn woman would budge from her decades-old position.
The woman who had refused to help her own son for years wouldn't suddenly develop maternal instincts overnight. Not even for her precious younger boy's desperate pleas.
Yet here I was, staring at my phone in disbelief as Zayden' voice cut through my expectations like a blade.
"Meeting at the Alpha King's estate feels too risky now. We need somewhere neutral," his voice carried through the speaker with casual confidence.
Reality crashed back into focus as I gripped the phone tighter. This had to be some elaborate trap. Nothing ever moved this smoothly in our world.
