Sandy's POV
"What are you talking about?" The words escaped my lips as confusion clouded my thoughts, a deep frown forming between my brows.
Zayden fixed his intense stare on me. He stayed quiet, his piercing gaze sweeping across my face as though he was desperately searching for something hidden beneath my surface that I couldn't even recognize myself.
"Zayden—"
"Did you never wonder about your mother and her family?" His question cut through the air like a blade.
My mouth clamped shut immediately. My heart skipped a beat, then began hammering against my ribs. I scrambled to understand why he would bring this up now, but all I could think of was that name echoing in my mind: Elaine family.
"Why are you bringing up my mother and her family all of a sudden?" The words came out strained, my breathing becoming shallow and uneven.
