Sandy's POV
The world around me dissolved into darkness, empty and cold. I drifted in that void, weightless and lost.
Then light broke through the black, revealing him standing in the distance. Charles. His steel-gray eyes locked onto mine with that familiar intensity that always left me breathless and terrified at the same time.
I tried to back away.
I couldn't face him. Not now. Not when my heart was still raw from everything that had happened.
If I let him get close, all my carefully built walls would crumble. I'd lose control completely. I'd grab his shirt, shake him until he told me the truth, scream at him until my voice gave out.
Had he known about the prophecy all along? When I'd told him about my visions, had he just pretended not to believe me? Did he think I was some naive girl he could manipulate?
