Sandy's POV
Before a single sound could escape my throat, a calloused palm clamped over my mouth, swallowing every desperate cry that tried to break free.
Terror seized my body like ice water flooding my veins until the shocking realization hit me. I wasn't plummeting toward certain death alone.
Charles had launched himself after me the instant he'd shoved me over the edge. Now we tumbled through empty air together, his powerful arms maneuvering my smaller frame until I found myself positioned above his broad chest, his back turned toward the unforgiving ground below.
My pulse hammered against my ribs with brutal force. Three stories. The fall would shatter bones, tear flesh, send waves of excruciating agony through every nerve ending. And he'd positioned himself to absorb the worst of the impact.
Sure, his supernatural healing would eventually mend whatever damage we sustained.
But the initial pain would be absolutely devastating first.
