Filming The Tuner was going great!
Zane felt super prepared for two big reasons. First, he had seen the original short film many times in his old life. His film school teachers had even made him study it for homework! Second, the "system" in his head didn't just give him the script; it gave him all the secret details on how to shoot every scene.
With so much help, how could he not succeed?
On April 5th, Zane's second movie, The Tuner, was officially finished! From start to finish, it only took 17 days.
"Well," Zane sighed, feeling proud but tired, "now we just have to edit it all together."
The very next day, on April 6th, the other movie, Memento (which Zane had renamed Memories), also finished filming. It only took 23 days, which was two days faster than in Zane's old life!
The director, Christopher Nolan, was a real perfectionist. His brother, Jonathan, had to tell him to relax.
"Brother, you can rest assured," Jonathan advised. "The editors at Wald Pictures are pros. They're just as good as the ones at the big studios in Hollywood."
But Christopher shook his head. "I know, but this movie isn't just for me. Mr. Blackwood is counting on us. I can't let him down."
Jonathan just smiled. He really admired his brother. Christopher then ran off to the editing room to help put the movie together.
In Hollywood, there's a big rule: the producer (like Zane) is the main boss, not the director.
This rule was made a long time ago because some directors would have wild, "artsy" ideas that didn't make sense to the audience. The producer is there to make sure the movie is fun and easy for everyone to understand.
If a director gets too much power and no one stops them (like with the old, famous movie Heaven's Gate), they can even make a whole company go bankrupt! That's why producers are in charge.
But... Zane was different.
He knew Memento was a very smart, tricky movie. He trusted his director. So, he did something very rare: he gave Christopher Nolan "final cut" rights.
This meant Nolan got to decide exactly what the final movie would look like. It was a huge sign of Zane's trust and respect for him.
On April 10th, it was time for Wrong Turn 2! The movie already had a lot of fans, and they all rushed to the 2,450 theaters that were showing it.
It was a huge hit!
On its first day, Wrong Turn 2 made $13 million!
This was amazing! It beat all the other movies in theaters, even Titanic! It also made more money on its first day than the first movie had made in its entire first weekend.
This just shows why sequels (like a "Part 2") are so popular. They are super easy to make money with and are not a big risk. That's why Hollywood loves to make so many of them, like Pirates of the Caribbean or all the Marvel and DC superhero movies.
On Monday, the numbers for the whole weekend came in. Wrong Turn 2 had made $28.3 million!
Now, this wasn't as much as Juno or The Sixth Sense had made.
However... the movie was so cheap to make!
The first movie cost $1 million. This second movie only cost $1.5 million!
Making that much money from such a cheap movie... what more could you want?
All the other small and medium-sized movie companies in Hollywood were so jealous of Wald Pictures.
At a company called Miramax Films, the boss, Harvey Weinstein, was very bitter.
"Those lucky... guys!" he said. "How do they always find these gems? A $1.5 million movie is going to make them over $50 million! They can do it, so why can't we?"
He was very jealous. It was like two students taking a big test. One student (Harvey) studies hard all year long but only gets into a normal college. But the other student (Zane) plays video games all day, crams for just one night, and ends up getting a higher score.
How can you accept that?
All the other movie companies felt the same way. They all looked at Zane's amazing success and just said... "Darn it!"
