Chapter 138 - Chapter 137

The Japanese government's rescue plan had failed. The country's money markets were now completely open. It was a giant feast, and all the big money players were invited.

All the big investment banks raised huge sums of money.

They used special bank tricks to buy and sell Japanese yen very, very fast. This made the yen's value crash, which made the stock market fall, too. They were making tons of money from all this chaos.

"Hurry up! Move faster, team!" one bank boss yelled.

"We didn't make enough money when the government was fighting back!" another one screamed. "This time, we have to make a huge profit!"

"What? The big Japanese companies are still trying to fight? Do I have to teach you what to do? Of course, we rush in and tear them apart! Teach them a lesson!"

All the bosses were screaming orders, telling their teams to go get the money.

It didn't matter how hard the Japanese companies tried to resist. It was useless. It was like a few babies trying to stop a high-speed tank. Their government had given up. What could a private company do?

At the bank Merrill Lynch, one of the bosses had a look of pure excitement on his face. He was thrilled to see his profits growing so fast.

"Sir, our profit this time is at least $1.5 billion!" a trader said, his voice shaking with excitement.

The boss just yelled, "You fool! Is $1.5 billion supposed to make me excited? Let me tell you, the big bosses want us to make $4 billion! Do you understand? That's our target!"

The traders all went stiff. They suddenly guessed what was happening.

They were using the money they made from Japan to make up for money they had lost somewhere else.

A few months ago, Soros and the other big players had tried to attack another country's money. But they had failed! That country's government had a lot of backup money and got help from its powerful neighbours.

Soros and the big banks had lost a lot. The old Hungarian boss, Soros, was almost sick with anger.

So, this time, they were going to get all their money back from Japan... and more.

At Gale Capital...

"YES!" Henry shouted, pumping his fists in the air. "Boss, you won't believe this! It's completely crazy out there. Because we acted so fast, we were able to grab $300 million in yen contracts!"

Zane was very excited to hear this, too.

He had invested $500 million, but the other banks were so fast. After a big scramble, Gale Capital had only managed to grab $300 million of the contracts.

"Darn it!" Zane cursed, but he was half-joking. "Are they all rabbits? How did they move so fast? I couldn't even get the other $200 million. That means I'll make so much less money!"

Henry and all the traders just stared at their boss.

Boss, please, they all thought. Do you hear yourself? Anyone else would be crying with joy!

Gale Capital had managed to grab $300 million in just a few minutes. That was a huge amount, and it put them in the top five.

They only got it because Zane, their boss, had been prepared and ready to go.

One of the other big banks, Lehman Brothers, was probably crying in the bathroom right now! They had waited just a second too long and had missed out.

So, hearing Zane complain was... well, it was a lot!

Zane blushed. He knew he was being a little greedy. But who was Zane? He had thick skin!

"Why are you all looking at me?" he said with a big, charming laugh. "Do I need to teach you what to do? Team, it's time to go pick up money!"

Everyone shook their heads and smiled. Their boss was one of a kind.

They were all in a great mood. As Zane said, with the Japanese government giving up, this was just like picking up free cash. The only fight now was over who could pick it up the fastest!

$3 million! $9 million! $17 million!

...

By November 14th, after a few days of "picking up money," Gale Capital had made a huge profit.

In just a few days, they made another $330 million.

If you added the $200 million they had made before, Zane had pulled more than $500 million out of Japan in just one month.

And if you added the money from the other Asian countries, Gale Capital had made a total profit of $783.6 million from this whole crisis!

Henry was almost shouting with excitement. "Boss! Our total profit is so big, we are definitely one of the top ten investment banks in this whole thing!"

Zane nodded, feeling proud. He knew he couldn't make as much as the real giants, like Soros. They were playing with tens of billions of dollars.

But even so, Zane's team had done an amazing job.

"I'm so exhausted," Zane sighed, stretching. "All for the money... I didn't even get to go to the premiere of my new movie, The Sixth Sense."

Henry just looked at his boss, shaking his head.

Boss, please! he thought. You just made $783 million. What more do you want?

But Henry didn't understand. Zane knew what The Sixth Sense was. In his old life, it was one of the biggest movies of the year, making over $600 million.

After all the costs, that movie would bring him a profit of at least $200 million, and maybe even $300 million with all the DVD sales.

How could Zane not be a little sad he missed the party for a movie that big?
