Chapter 76 - Why

"Not yet. But the search will continue for another few days."

'D-damn it.' Ryuu's mind went to that moment. The building collapsing again.

'It's to be expected, If The Collector was at the center of that blast, there wouldn't be anything left to find..but wait...'

"How did you find my dad's corpse if you can't find the collector's body?" Ryuu was puzzled cause... isn't that a bad thing?

"Your dad was found in a in a dying shied,it seems it was a quirk of his." Aizawa tone drop a bit.

"Is that so..." Ryuu head dipped lower at the thought of the condition his father's body.

"Now. About the memorial service," Aizawa continued. "It's on saturday at two PM. The Hero Commission is handling arrangements at their main facility. It's not just for your father. They're honoring all the casualties. The ones who were forced to work for that organization, the ones caught in the collapse. Your father is being recognized specifically for his undercover work."

"Will it be public?"

"Semi-public. Heroes, government officials, families of the deceased. The media will be kept at a distance, but they'll have access to photograph the ceremony from designated areas." Aizawa's expression softened slightly. "I know you wanted privacy. But your father's actions are being treated as a significant heroic sacrifice. The Commission wants to acknowledge that."

Ryuu swallowed hard. "Who's coming? From UA?"

"All Might will be there. Principal Nezu. Several faculty members. Your classmates have been given the option to attend if they choose."

Which meant Mina and Momo would definitely be there. Probably others too.

"Your mother will give a brief eulogy," Aizawa added. "You won't be required to speak if you don't want to. The Commission understands this is difficult."

"Okay."

"One more thing." Aizawa pulled out a folder. "The Commission is offering counseling services. Not just the UA counselors. There will be specialized trauma therapists who work specifically with hero families. Your mother has access to these resources as well."

He slid a card across the desk. That reads.

Dr. Miyako Sato. Quirk-Related Trauma Specialist.

"I know you said you'd think about it," Aizawa said quietly. "But I'm asking you to actually follow through. Not for me. For yourself."

Ryuu took the card. Stared at it. A stranger who'd try to help him process the unprocessable.

"I'll call her."

"Good." Aizawa leaned back in his chair. "How are you handling everything? Honestly."

"I don't know. Every time I close my eyes, I'm back there. I can't eat without feeling sick. Can't focus on anything. The medication helps me sleep, but then I have nightmares anyway." The words tumbled out before Ryuu could stop them. "And everyone keeps asking if I'm okay, and I don't know what to tell them because I don't know the answer."

Aizawa nodded slowly. "That's normal. What you're experiencing is a natural response to trauma. Your brain is trying to process something it wasn't designed to handle."

"Does it get better?"

"Eventually. With help. With time." Aizawa's expression held understanding. "It won't ever go back to how it was before. But it can become manageable. The pain becomes something you carry instead of something that carries you."

Ryuu wanted to believe that. Wanted to think that someday he'd wake up and the weight in his chest would be lighter.

Right now, it felt impossible.

"Is there anything else?" he asked.

"One thing. Security." Aizawa's tone shifted to something more serious. "The organization your father infiltrated was extensive. We don't know how many members escaped or what their response will be to having their facility destroyed. Until we're certain there's no continued threat, you'll have additional protection."

"I thought Mirko was already—"

"She is. But we're adding more. You won't see them, but they'll be watching. If you leave campus for any reason, inform faculty first. Clear?"

The implications settled over Ryuu like a heavy blanket. They thought the villains might come back for him.

"Yes sensei."

"Good. That's all I have. You're dismissed."

Ryuu stood to leave, then paused. "Aizawa-sensei? Why did the Commission go public with the story?"

"It was HPSC idea, because your father's sacrifice deserves recognition. And because sometimes transparency helps prevent rumors from becoming something worse." Aizawa met his gaze. "The villain community will know their facility was destroyed and who was responsible. Better they learn it from official channels than through their own intelligence networks."

Which was another way of saying: They already know about you. We're just controlling the narrative.

Ryuu left the office feeling even more hollow than when he'd entered.
