The kidnappers had abandoned a complete medical kit behind, stocked with everything from antibiotics to tetanus prevention. I administered Todd's tetanus shot first, then started addressing his injuries.
His shirt, thoroughly destroyed and stained beyond repair, came off easily, exposing the full scope of his wounds.
Despite my background, I drew in a harsh breath. Lash marks, puncture wounds, gashes, and burns covered his torso. The collection was savage. None would kill him, but together they painted a picture of calculated suffering.
I glanced up, my worry impossible to mask. "Are you in pain?" I wondered how he'd managed to flee that crumbling warehouse while enduring such agony.
Todd seemed surprised that I showed no disgust at his wounds and actually inquired about his pain.
