The night stretched long after Travis left.
Her phone buzzed once, then twice.
By the third vibration, her heart had already begun to thud. She glanced at it reluctantly.
Elias: Let's talk, please. I beg you.
Her breath caught in her throat. Her fingers twitched, but she didn't touch the phone.
The message app blinked again.
Elias: Amara, I know you saw the call.
Elias: Please, don't do this to me.
Elias: I swear I'll explain everything. Just give me a chance.
She stared at the words, the name, and the blue bubbles.
Her lips parted, a shaky breath escaping her. Then, with a swift motion, she unlocked her phone and typed.
Amara: Where do you stay now?
The response came almost immediately, like he'd been waiting, and holding his breath.
Elias: Give me your address. I'll come to you.
Amara let out a dry, humorless scoff. She typed again.
