[1st POV]
I opened my eyes the moment I regained consciousness and saw the familiar, yet unfamiliar ceiling.
Yes. It wasn't a dream, although a part of me hoped it was.
In the back of my mind, I was still very sleepy and tired, but that feeling had no place in me at the moment. I had much bigger things to worry about.
I got out of bed, my body ached all over with each movement, but I found that to be rather pleasing. It was a stark and constant reminder of my new reality. There was no place for delusion when you were in pain.
I made a beeline for the bathroom to freshen up. After that, I headed downstairs to make breakfast. I was no chef, but I at least knew how to make some eggs which I had with some Konoha cereals.
I made different kinds of eggs. I hard-boiled two eggs, fried another two to make an omelet and the last one I half-boiled. That was five eggs in total, it might cause me a glorious fart, but that was the only source of protein I could find right now.
I should buy some meat after returning from the academy.
I headed out after eating my breakfast. It was still early in the morning, the academy started at 9 so I had at least two hours in my hands. But I decided to roam around Konoha on my way to the academy.
I took the longest route, sightseeing as I walked through the streets of Konoha. The Shinobi village was a weird mix of tradition and modernity. There were many buildings which they often connected with bridges.
This was not only done for convenience but also for the shinobi to traverse easier through the village in times of emergency. Running from roof to roof was easier and the whole village was designed while taking the shinobi into account.
I would not say the village was too backward in technology, as it had vending machines and such. But at the same time, it was nowhere near the technology I was exposed to back in my past life.
The streets were colorful, with friendly street shops here and there, and the people were kind too. Some of them even went as far as calling me by name and wishing me good morning.
The village was also filled with sturdy trees; those seemed to be the only decoration in the streets. The village was lacking a bit on billboards and advertisement. The thing I found most enjoyable was that there were no automobiles, everyone was walking with few flashes of shinobi running on the roof here and there.
I also made note of some landmarks, like the village library and the so-called police force of Konoha which was a bit different from the Shinobi force.
...
"Thank you for the meal," I said to the vendor who replied with a bright smile, "Thank you for buying."
I ate the grilled chicken while walking away. It was chicken breast cut in small pieces and put on a wooden skewer. Although I already had breakfast, I couldn't resist the smell of good food and protein.
Fortunately, the inheritance I got was a substantial amount. The pay given out to the family after a shinobi died was also there for me to support myself. My father being the highest-ranked ninja meant that his death alone gave me quite the amount to support myself. So I did not have to worry about money for a long time at least.
I looked at the clock inside one of the shops as I walked by and realized that I was running late. Two hours passed so quickly.
So biting down on the skewer, I jumped up to one of the roofs and began moving like a shinobi, jumping from roof to roof while going to the academy.
An academy-level shinobi was already leagues above a normal human. I was basically a super soldier in comparison to my past world. I was able to move through the roof with apparent ease.
I was still not allowed to move in such a way before I graduated but the rules were not so strict. I remember doing this more than once, especially after my parents taught me the Body Flicker.
"Speaking of which," I said and made a tiger sign with one hand.
"Body Flicker Jutsu," I infused chakra through my whole body, focusing on my legs and I pushed myself out with an incredible burst of speed.
It was fast, so fast that the world became a blur of colors before I reached my location instantly. The Body Flicker Jutsu was a D-ranked transportation jutsu. It allowed for extreme bursts of speed, too fast that most could not control it.
Due to this reason, it was mostly ineffective for combat. Even while I was using it, I had to be undisturbed while moving and aim for a location carefully beforehand. And if anything obstructed my path during the Body Flicker, I could crash and really hurt myself.
The mental preparation and the caution with which this jutsu needs to be used made it so that most shinobi did not want to use this in intense battles. Unless, of course, you were experienced.
I used the Body Flicker Jutsu multiple times while on my way to the academy. After the first two attempts, I made it become a short training session where I tried to be conscious while at such an insane speed. But even with all my talents in speed, it was still difficult to do so.
It was just a blur and gone. But although I did not make much progress, it was fun to practice anyway.
I was able to reach the academy in time.
I did not go through the front door. I jumped on top of the tree near our classroom and jumped inside through the open window. I used the Body Flicker Jutsu one final time before I headed inside. But I miscalculated just a tiny bit and I tripped on the window frame.
*Crash!!*
I crashed inside, rolling twice on top of the student table before I was able to pull myself to a stop on the table.
"Whoa!! Where did you come from!!" I heard a loud voice scream at me.
It was a familiar voice, but not so much for my current life, rather familiar to my past life. I looked at the person and realized I had landed on top of Naruto's table.
I blinked, catching my balance before I jumped down from the table. All eyes were on me but I only focused on the main character of this world.
"Good morning, Naruto," I said.
"Uhhh-huh? Good morning to you too," he said dumbly, looking a bit surprised that I greeted him politely for some reason, "Wait, you didn't answer my question!!"
He was young, so very young compared to the Naruto I remembered, because I knew him more from Shippuden. He had his original orange jumpsuit and he wore green goggles on his forehead instead of a shinobi headband.
"I clearly came from the window," I answered with a tilt of my head.
"Who comes to class from a window like that!!" he asked me, every word that came from his mouth was annoyingly loud, as if he wanted to be all over other people's business.
"Me, I guess. I'm Suyou Hoshigawa," I said while offering a handshake.
"I know who you are, smartass!! You are my rival," he said, and pointed at me, "I am going to surpass both you and Sasuke in the graduation exam, believe it!!"
"Oh," I didn't know Naruto had an impression like that of me.
But before we could continue to interact, Iruka-sensei walked into class and everyone stood up to greet him.
"Good morning, students, sit down," he said after he reached the teacher's platform.
I simply sat down beside Naruto. It was not my usual seat but since no one else sat beside Naruto, I decided to take it for myself.
Who wouldn't want to get close to Naruto?
"Let's begin where we left off yesterday," Iruka said and the class began.
Unfortunately for me, it seemed sitting beside Naruto did not guarantee getting close to him. The first minute of the class, Naruto was already dozing off. It was impressive how fast he fell asleep actually.
Iruka by this point seemed to have given up on keeping Naruto awake in class so he just ignored him as he slept through the class.
"As everyone knows, we will only have class until noon and you will be given free time for the rest of the day to prepare for the final exams. I hope you know the timetable by now. You will have Konoha History and Chakra Theory on the first day, the second day would be Math and Strategy and Tactics, the third day you would face exams for First Aid Medical Theory and the last two days of the week will be practical exams," Iruka said.
I tried to recall the subjects and the exams he mentioned and sure enough, I already had good memory of them. But I still insisted on studying on my own while I was in the academy, I wanted to ace even the written exams after all.
As the class continued, I took out the different books, using Naruto's scrolls and texts to study on my own. We usually just leave everything in the class instead of carrying a bag everywhere. Instead, the final years carry a ninja pouch by now.
We had three different classes in total with three different teachers. Naruto slept through all of them. But when the final bell rang, he magically woke up like he was fake sleeping all along and he ran out of the academy before I could even say a word to him.
Not thinking much of it, I went home as well. I bought some food supplies on my way. I could not spare myself much free time either, I had some training to do.
