Isao Tsumugi

"Hm?" I raised an eyebrow in confusion, because the question was, frankly, quite silly. "Of course. Why wouldn't I? I trust you; you're a smart and fairly mature girl for your age, even if you're still a bit impulsive—but who among us isn't prone to emotions?" I gave her a reassuring smile, then watched as Rei's eyes widened in astonishment.

"…" For several seconds, she just stared at me with those cute eyes full of vulnerability, until finally, she turned back to the horizon and suddenly rested her head on my shoulder. "I'm glad there's at least someone who believes in me."

Honestly, what she said was stupid.

Takashi and Hisashi believe in her, her mother trusts her and her strength, and basically everyone she knows respects and trusts her one way or another… had she entered that teenage phase of "Nobody loves me, I'm all alone in this world!!!"? What was the reason for this? I didn't think her parents' divorce was the cause, though the chance of that wasn't zero.

"You know, Isao-kun, it turns out my parents have basically been divorced for a whole year, and… actually, I've suspected it for a long time… and today, after I got my powers and changed for the better, it became obvious to me." I just listened quietly as Rei spoke about it in a soft, rather light voice. "And now that Mom revealed it to me, I just… I just can't get angry. No, I did get angry, but only for a few minutes. Everything after that… it was more like resentment."

"Rei…" I wanted to comfort her somehow, to try and soothe her with words, but she cut me off before I could say more than her name.

"No, let me finish, please." She took a heavy breath and looked up at the clouds and the sun, which was slowly but surely dipping lower. "It hurts that my parents didn't say anything, as if… as if I'm still some little girl." She gritted her teeth, and I felt a certain amount of malice and… danger coming from her?

Hm, now that's something new. I'd never felt anything like that in this life. Even that mutant didn't make me feel quite like this… okay, I'm lying there, but the danger I felt from the zombie back then was only a small fraction of what I was feeling now next to Rei. Amazing!

"As if I'm some weak little girl! It pisses me off; it makes me mad when I'm treated like a weak girl who needs to be protected from everything and everyone 24/7." She rolled her eyes, noticing the confused look I was giving her. "Why… why are you looking at me like that?"

"Like what?"

"With that stupid look, like you don't even understand what I'm talking about, Isao."

"Because I don't? You're a pretty strong girl, and your parents didn't tell you sooner because… well? Maybe they had some doubts? Or maybe they just wanted to tell you after you finished school so most of your classmates wouldn't look at you with weird stares?" Because that kind of thing happens here; Rei's parents are fairly famous in our city after all, and teenagers can't just shut up and mind their own business—they love to gossip, joke, and do all sorts of other stupid things.

Rei went silent and just looked my way after my words, so I continued.

"The thing is, Rei, it probably wasn't easy for them to make this decision either, since they were once teenagers just like us, first of all. And second… honestly, I don't know. They could have had a thousand different reasons why they didn't tell you sooner, and you'll never know those reasons if you don't just ask them directly why they didn't tell you. So… just forget about it for a while." I smiled at her and, reaching out to her head, began to stroke her hair. To my luck, her confused expression was slowly replaced by a blushing, embarrassed one, making me chuckle slightly. "You know, I know one way we can let off some steam." Having said that, I noticed her blush deepen even more, and only then did it hit me how suggestive that could have sounded.

"And… mm, how?" Rei asked softly, looking down with my hand on her head. The embarrassed yet determined tone she used was cute, but I crushed her anticipation with a few words.

"Well… we can spar!" Her face instantly lost all that color, making me laugh, and her eyes snapped toward me with anger at being teased like that.

"Ha! If you want to be beaten up that badly!" She quickly turned away, performing a backflip in an impressive display, using her hands to spring into the air—proving once again how agile and strong she'd become after awakening her trait and ability.

And beautiful. The way her thighs were so shapely and thick was indescribable; she rivaled Saeko in that regard. Why did I suddenly mention that? Because when she did the flip, her skirt dropped enough to give me a very good view of her legs and lower body.

Noticing her blush again, I smirked and slowly stood up.

"Alright, let's set the rules for our little sparring session right now." I stepped further back from the edge of the roof; I didn't want either of us accidentally flying over the side and splatting like a pancake from the 5th or 6th floor. "First, I won't fight using my abilities," I raised my index finger, looking at her. "Second, you don't have to hold back. I give you permission." I raised my middle finger and gave her a slightly mocking smile, noticing a vein bulge on her temple from anger while her gaze and smile grew sharper. "And third, the most important: we fight until one of us is on the floor. Hope that's clear?" I raised my ring finger with a smile, watching as she began to stretch her arms and body with some haste.

"Yes, perfectly clear." Her smile grew even sharper, and I felt a massive sense of anticipation from her. It seemed her previous bad mood had vanished like dust in the wind… that was enough for me.

And looking at her, I realized one thing.

Damn, I haven't been spending enough time with K-imoto since all this crap started. For almost two days now, I haven't been able to just sit down quietly and cuddle with her for a few hours while she looks at something on her phone. I have to do that tonight!

We moved quite far back on the roof and stood where there were no obstacles for our movements. I also began to prepare, because I started this little spar not only to calm Rei down with a fight but also to practice one thing I'd received.

Specifically, the Breathing Technique!

I inhaled and exhaled the way the skill I'd received today told me to, and instantly felt the same effect I'd felt just half an hour ago when I first decided to try out this technique.

"If you're ready, we can begin." I spoke with slight difficulty, as maintaining the breathing technique was a bit tough.

"Oh, I'm ready—more than ready!" She shouted the last words and lunged at me, appearing right in front of me in an instant.

My reaction barely managed to catch her raising her hand and striking with the edge of it as if it were a sword. I jumped back and felt something on my left hip clink.

The sword! Fuck, I forgot to take it off!

"Wait, Rei, hold on—" But she didn't even let me finish my sentence; instead, she moved at me again with an aggression I'd never seen from her.

Her pupils were constricted, and her red, full lips had thinned because of how widely she was smiling.

And then I realized: she hears nothing and doesn't even want to hear anything, because right now there was only one thought spinning in her head—to Fight.

And I'm not a man who disappoints. So I sighed, restored the breathing technique that had slipped when I spoke, and felt a slight strain in my lungs. I ignored it, settling into a waiting, fairly loose stance that allowed me to both swing my arms and kick my legs.

Rei, meanwhile, wasted no time and was already right in front of me, drawing her arm back for a strike. I didn't miss the moment she hit, but I still barely blocked it because Rei's speed was insane; right now, she was much faster than me.

When I grabbed her right arm as she tried to strike me, a noticeable pain shot through my own arm, but I didn't show it on my face. I just acted, trying this time to strike her directly in the torso on the right side she'd left open.

But Rei showed again how agile she'd become. She jumped up and twisted right in mid-air, catching my arm in a leg lock.

"Oh, shit!" It felt like my right shoulder was about to be snapped.

"HAHAHA!" I heard Rei's happy laughter as she continued to pull back, making my shoulder practically shake, which in turn made me smile slightly despite my face being contorted in pain.

I exhaled sharply, tensed my arm, and began to pull her back in front of me. As soon as Rei's torso was before me, I struck her there with half-strength several times, making her cough and slightly loosen her grip. This allowed me to throw her off; with a swing of my arm, I tossed her upward and to the side, and she landed squarely on her feet, showing off her gymnastic skills.

"Ah, that was quite painful, Isao-chan." Rei said this with a slightly flushed face, looking at me with feigned anger while a bit of saliva trailed from the corner of her lips.

"Oh, come on, Rei, you almost broke my arm!"

"Don't lie, Isao-chan, you can handle worse than that! Don't you remember that hit from the mutated zombie? If you can survive his blow, you can survive mine with ease!" She rushed me again, but this time I didn't wait for her.

I moved directly toward her too, swinging a low fist aimed at her torso again. Her reaction was once more faster than mine.

She dropped down sharply, and following her movement with my eyes, I saw her standing on her hands in a split, then she twisted and…

Everything suddenly went white in my eyes. I even took a few steps back, but it seemed Rei wasn't planning on giving me a break.

I felt several more blows directly to my stomach and chest, but this time they were much stronger. Then I caught a few more to the head and barely clung to my consciousness.

But through my blurred vision, I saw her preparing for a kick, and I realized one thing.

Rei had become damn strong.

The kick that landed right in the center of my chest was the final move. It sent me flying straight into some structure. I crumpled it with my body with a screech of metal, and sliding slightly to the floor, I lay there, feeling something liquid with a metallic taste on my tongue.

My consciousness was barely holding on; if she hit me again, I'd lose it completely. I didn't even want to move my head, but I forced myself to look at Rei as she walked toward me.

My vision was blurry, so I only saw Rei's excited expression when she landed with her ass right on my pelvis.

"You… became incredibly strong… Rei." I smiled looking at her, and I saw her previously excited expression become a little tenderer and softer.

"It's all thanks to you, Isao-chan!" She smiled looking at me, the blush on her cheeks deepening as she continued to speak breathlessly, trying to be more seductive. "You gave me these powers, and you were always there to protect and comfort me. Even now, instead of my mother who put me in a bad mood, you're here. Ah~ you're just everything I need!" She began to rub her soft cheeks against my groin, making me smile awkwardly.

"H-hey! Rei! Remember our agreement!"

"Oh~" She exhaled… wait, what the hell, she exhaled steam?! Only now, as more of my sensation returned, did I realize that yes, her body was incredibly hot right now. "I'm not going to have sex with you right here and now, Isao-chan! We're just going to play." With those words, she pressed her lips against mine, beginning to kiss me with an uncomplicated intensity, as if she were going to pull my soul out through my mouth.

I felt the way she played with my tongue with an easy, almost mocking simplicity, licking away all the blood she herself had caused from my mouth.

After several long and very pleasant seconds, she pulled away, looking directly into my eyes, and god… how hot she was…!

"I think… that's all. Thank you, Isao-chan, for everything!" She smiled with a more composed smile now and got off me, extending her hand to help me up.

I took her hand in the gentlest way I possibly could, and smiled back at her.
