Chapter 20: The Visitor
Maddie's P.O.V.
~Saturday~
I woke up confused.I was confused about the dream I had. Actually, I think it's a memory. The little girl was me, and the little boy was my first ever best friend who left. I suddenly remembered my old childhood friend who first broke my heart. He promised he will come back, but it has been 13 years and there is no sign of him. Sudden sadness clouded my memories. I heard a notification from my phone, but it took me almost a minute to actually check it.
'I wonder where he is right now?Does he still remember me?'
I was brought out of my trance when I heard my phone.
'Ding'
I checked my phone and saw that there are 2 text messages from Ethan.
~Good morning! :)
~Hope you had an amazing rest.
I texted him back before heading downstairs.
~M:Morning!. Yup, I did what about you?
~E:It was great! By the way, what time are you heading to Chloe's house?
~M:Before lunch, maybe.....
~E:Can I give you a ride?
~M:Mom's actually dropping me off on the way to the grocery store.
~E:Cool.
~M:Sorry. By the way, what you up to for today?
~E:Nah, it's fine. Ooooofffff!!!!! I'm stuck with Jasmine for the day. She is dragging me again to the mall because she needs a new wardrobe for the 100th time since she arrived. She takes forever shopping!!! Plus her closet is already full of clothes!! I don't understand why she needs that much clothes!?
~M:Hahaha! Don't worry, I don't understand as well. LOL! One of the reasons why Chloe always makes me get ready at her house when she throws a party.
~E:I wish I can spend the day with you. :(
~M:Monday is just around the corner. :)
~M:BRB Breakfast! :)
I left my phone on the table and went straight to my
bathroom to wash my face.After brushing my teeth, I went downstairs. I found Dad drinking his coffee in his office while reading something on his computer.
I knocked lightly on the door and whispered,"Morning,Dad!"
He looked up at me and replied,"Morning sweetheart!"
I went to the kitchen and found mom making pancakes.I went over to mom and gave her a hug.
"Mmmm...My favorite." I said.
"Do you want to fry the bacon?"Mom asked.
"Sure."I said, opening the cupboard to get another pan.
I started frying the bacon while talking to Mom about school,friends and her work.
We just finished preparing breakfast when Dad came in the kitchen.
"If it isn't my two favorite chef's cooking breakfast."he said.
"Well,if it isn't my most handsome DAD." I replied, teasing Dad.
He pretended to look surprised."I am YOUR only Dad so that makes me handsome by default!" he said.
Mom and I just laughed at Dad.Dad is always the dramatic one in the family and also the funniest one.
We had breakfast and Dad kept going on and on about him being my only Dad and why he is handsome by default.Dad can get deep into biology about genes and stuff. After breakfast, I cleaned up the kitchen before heading back to my room. I checked the time, and I saw it was already 9:30. Ethan also sent a text an hour ago.
~E:Ok! Eat well! :)
I closed my phone and opened my closet to get a new towel.I took a shower and wore joggers and an oversized shirt with my favorite Nike sneakers. I grabbed my black sling bag and threw my wallet, house keys, earphones and my phone inside. I took my laundry basket to the laundry room. I made a mental note to do them when I get home.
I went to the kitchen to grab a granola bar and snickers.I put the granola bar in my bag and opened the snickers right away. I was halfway done with eating it when Mom came downstairs all ready to go.
"Ready?"Mom asked.
"Yup."I said, heading out the door.
Dad came out of the house minutes later and we all got in the car.They dropped me off at Chloe's house first before heading to the grocery store. I knocked on their door and a maid opened it. I went straight to Chloe's room, knowing that she would still be sleeping. I have been at Chloe's house a lot of times that their house is almost my second home. We used to sleep over at each other's houses every week when we were Sophomores.
I entered Chloe's room and found her lying peacefully in her bed.
"Chloe,it's 6 pm already." I teased her.
She bolted straight up and frantically looked for her phone.She immediately checked the time when she found her phone. She screamed when she realized it was only 11 am. I laughed at her reaction. I always do the same joke on her over and over again, and she still keeps falling for it repeatedly.
She hit me with a pillow before lying back down.
"Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!I hate you!" she shrieked.
"I love you too."I replied, laughing at her reaction.
She finally got out of bed 10 minutes later.Brooke was supposed to be here as well but then her cousin is turning 16 today and her whole family is going, including her. Chloe was browsing through the photos from last night's party on her laptop when she paused and looked at me. "Where were you last night? Don't tell me you were in my room the whole time!!??" she asked suspiciously, eyeing me.
"No!I was not. I was in the backyard?" I said, well more of questioned no one in particular. I know she would be mad at me for staying in the backyard when I am supposed to be partying with her.
"The whole night?????"she asked.
"Of Course not."I replied.
She closed her laptop and looked at me.
"Well,I am listening. You better start explaining." she demanded.
I told her about what happened.I told her about Ethan and about the kiss. Her facial expression was a mixture of shocked and happy and mad. I finished telling her what happened, and she was just staring at me for a good 5 minutes. After she finished processing the information, she bombarded me with questions.
"Why did you not tell me about it?"
"Your parents and his parents are best friends yet you never met them nor Ethan?!"
"You kissed at his house and hid that certain information for a whole week bitch?"
"What the actual fuck are you even doing in my house right now?"
"Aren't you supposed to be on a date with the Ethan Walker?"
I decided to just laugh at all her questions and drag her to the kitchen to stuff food in her mouth.After having her breakfast, she faced time Brooke and tell her the news as well. It took 2 hours to actually calm them both down.
It's not supposed to be really a big deal,but Ethan is my crush since Sophomore Year and for him to actually kiss me is like a fairy tale turned into reality. We spent the afternoon swimming in their pool. It was like an after party from last night. We always do after parties whenever Chloe hosts one. After parties are always made of Brooke, Chloe and I. It's a girl only party.
We swam for about 2 hours and we watched a couple of movies on Netflix before calling it a day.I called an Uber to get home.
"I'm home!"I said, closing the door and locking it.
I heard voices in the kitchen but saw Dad in his office.
"In the kitchen,honey!" Mom shouted.
I heard laughter on my way to the kitchen.I was texting Chloe, letting her know I got home safe when I entered the kitchen. I just hit the send button when someone greeted me.
"Hey Maddie!"a familiar voice said.
I looked up to see who owns that familiar voice and came face to face with none other than The Ethan Walker.I was actually shocked and confused.
"Uhm.Hi!" I replied, confused.
"Ethan was just around the neighborhood and stopped by,so I invited him for dinner. We are making chicken Alfredo." Mom said.
"Cool."was all I got to say. I mean I don't mind him staying over for dinner, but I was just surprised because I was not expecting him at all.
"Why don't you make dessert,honey?" Mom suggested.
"Sure.Let me just get changed." I replied.
I went up to my room and changed my clothes before heading back to the kitchen.
"So what's for dessert?",Ethan asked.
"Her specialty- brownies." Mom said.
Mom turned the burner into low heat before putting the cover over the pan.
"Can you keep an eye on the chicken for me,please." Mom said before leaving the kitchen.
I went to the fridge and took out butter.I grabbed the chocolates, flour, baking powder and sugar from the cabinet and placed them on the table. I took out bowls and measuring cups as well.
"So what do we do?"Ethan asked.
"You can melt the chocolates with the butter while I measure the dry ingredients."I said.
I gave him the bag of chocolates and a glass bowl.I instructed him to heat a pot with 2 glasses of water. While we were making the brownie batter, I asked him what happened to shopping.
"Looks like you finished shopping early."I stated.
"Nah!A friend of hers called her saying she was having some outfit problem, so I had to drop her off at her friends' house which was just around your neighborhood so I stopped by." he explained.
I just nodded and went on mixing the dry ingredients with the wet ones.We finished the brownie batter and placed it on the baking tray and popped it right in the oven.
30 minutes later,dinner, and dessert were done. We had dinner, and Dad was asking Ethan all about basketball games and stuff. I was confused by the sudden change but let it go anyway. We finished dinner and Ethan helped me clean up in the kitchen even if I told him he does not have to because he is a visitor, but he insisted.
"So how was your day with Chloe?"Ethan asked.
"It was good,as always. So how long did you stay in the mall before you were brought out of your misery?" I asked, laughing at the misery part.
"4 hours"he replied, making a crying face. .
We continued to talk about random stuff while doing the dishes.After cleaning up, he said that he would head home because Jasmine texted him asking to pick her up.
Mom gave him brownies to bring home for his Mom.I walked him to the porch before saying goodnight.
"Thanks for the brownies.I absolutely love them." he said.
"Don't forget that one of those boxes is for your Mom."I teased him.
"I will try!"he replied, laughing.
"Well,drive safe." i said with a smile.
"I will.Thanks." he said before going to his car.
I waited until his car left the driveway before going back inside the house.I saw Mom and Dad sitting in the living room.
"Why was Ethan here?"I asked.
"What do you mean,sweetheart?" Dad asked.
"Uh.What was he doing here?" I asked again.
"What did he tell you?"Mom asked.
There was something fishy going on and my parents are not even helping at all.
"That he was just around the neighborhood and stopped by to say hello."I replied, telling them what Ethan told me.
"Then what is the problem,honey?" Mom asked.
I knew I would not understand it,so I let it go. I bid them good night before heading up to my room.
I just finished getting ready for bed when my phone was ringing.I grabbed my phone and laid down on my bed. I looked at the caller I.D and it was Ethan face timing me. I answered.
Ethan:I'm home. (he laughed at the end)
Me:I can see that (laughing) unless you are in somebody else's bed
```Ethan just laughed while eating brownies~~~
Me: You might want to tone down the eating. You are going to finish the whole tub of brownies.
Ethan: I am actually slowing down already.
~~showing me his tub of brownies~~
Me: (gasp) Ethan!! You finished half of it already?! And you still call that toning down?!
Ethan: What can I do? I can't stop myself! It's so goooooooooood! You need to make more!
Me: By the time we graduate, you will be diabetic already.
Ethan: Nah! It's ok! I will only die once so I would rather die knowing I got to enjoy these delicious brownies.
~~we both laughed~~
Ethan: Maddie...
Me: Yea?
Ethan: I miss you already.. (pouting)
Me: (laughing) You are quite a clingy boyfriend.
~~Ethan laughed before gasping as if realizing something~~
Ethan: Did you just call me your boyfriend???
~~I was left dumbfounded ... trying to find an excuse~~
Me: Huh?
Ethan: You know you are cute, especially when you are blushing.
~~I ignored him~~
I don't remember how long we were talking, but we were talking about different topics.
