Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: Second Combustion State

Upon hearing that roar, filled with anger and madness, the flames surrounding the sam armor flickered for a moment, and then Firefly stopped her attack.

She lowered her head slightly and looked in the direction from which the sound came.

At this moment, under the shadows of the trees below, a dozen figures gradually emerged.

They were naked, covered in sticky moss and wet branches, as if they had just crawled out of a nearby swamp.

This group of people stared intently at the sam armor, which was like a small sun in mid-air, their eyes seething with furious rage and pure malice, as if the sam armor's recent actions had dug up and scattered the ancestral graves of everyone in their family.

Firefly's gaze lingered on them for only a few tenths of a second before quickly moving away, because next to this group, she discovered two people who seemed out of place.

One was a middle-aged old woman who looked like a tribal priestess; she was clad in clothes woven from leaves and vines, her face painted with many patterns she couldn't understand, and in her hand, she tightly clutched a crude wooden staff with a murky crystal embedded at its tip and its shaft entwined with vines.

The other was a person completely wrapped in a black robe... Hmm, he looked very familiar.

Huh? Why did that man run away?

Watching the Robed man suddenly act as if there was a gas leak at home and he'd forgotten to turn off the stove, Firefly felt a bit bewildered.

However, because there were still a bunch of people watching her, Firefly simply didn't bother with him.

She shifted her gaze back to the group of people and then asked, "Who are you?"

"Blasphemer! Arsonist demon! I feel it! Your existence makes Mother Forest tremble! The Mother's Fury is about to descend!"

However, the middle-aged woman seemed unwilling to communicate; she waved her branch-like arms, her eyes filled with pure madness and a desire for violence, and she continued to shriek in a sharp voice, "Unforgivable desecration! We will use his bones to nourish the soil! To appease the Mother's Fury!"

As her voice fell, she immediately slammed her staff hard onto the ground. The next moment, Firefly, through the sam armor, could clearly feel the surrounding water vapor rising, and at this moment, the eyes of the naked humans (?) were filled with endless fanaticism, and then, like crazed beasts, they began to climb the surrounding trees.

"Ga hiss—karu ha! Hiss hiss—uru mu—!!!"

These people let out incomprehensible roars, using the trees as springboards to attack the sam armor in the air.

And the trees also began to strangely sprout numerous vines, quickly thrusting towards the sam armor.

"Can't communicate?"

Watching this scene, Firefly, inside the sam armor, showed no panic. She merely frowned slightly, disliking this feeling of madness.

Seeing that this group of people was about to touch her, Firefly silently sighed, then placed her right hand on her chest.

"In that case, I'll just destroy you along with the Mutated Beasts that need to be cleared.

Sub-Combustion State, Activate.

If your Mother Forest doesn't welcome me, then... I will ignite the forest!"

As her words fell, the indicator light on the sam armor's forehead suddenly lit up. Immediately, scorching flames instantly erupted from the sam armor's chest. The forest, originally filled with water vapor, was ignited in an instant by incredibly hot flames, forming a magnificent sea of fire.

The sea of fire precisely enveloped these madmen and the Mutated Beasts she had originally intended to clear. When the flames touched the living beings, they began to burn fiercely. Instantly, the previously fanatical humanoids, the crazed middle-aged old woman, and those frenzied Mutated Beasts all let out intense screams due to the scorching flames.

However, these screams didn't last long before they were burned to ashes by the flames.

"Directive, Supernova... No, it seems it's not needed."

After releasing the Sub-Combustion, Firefly had originally intended to follow up with a weakened version of a Supernova Overload (a full-power blast would at least obliterate the Grenource) to end the battle, but to her surprise, a mere casual fire created by the Sub-Combustion State had already annihilated this group of people.

What's more, her flames at this point hadn't even reached their most scorching state.

"A top pathstrider level of combat power is indeed a bit too high for this world; I can't find an opponent worth using my full strength on."

Watching the surrounding forest turn into a sea of fire (dangerous behavior, do not imitate), Firefly murmured softly.

She then deactivated the Sub-Combustion State, and the flames, under her control, instantly extinguished completely, leaving behind a vast area of charred ground.

From above, it looked as if a small section of green hair had been scorched black by a flamethrower.

After doing all this, Firefly turned her head and looked in one direction—the direction the Black Robed Man had fled.

The moment she made her move, she remembered who that he was: the Beast Cult cultist she had encountered when she first arrived at the Grenource.

She hadn't expected such a coincidence, and this time, he wasn't a holographic projection.

"Forget it. Since he ran so decisively, and the mission is already complete, I'll let him go. Let's head back."

With that, Firefly turned around and flew towards Elis's location...

"How can I be so unlucky?! I was just making a routine trade with Forest Fury, and how did I run into him again?!"

At this moment, he really wished he could add a few more legs to himself. As he ran, he kept cursing under his breath:

"Good thing I ran decisively. I'm lucky that my guess was right, that person really is an S-class..."

As he spoke, the man turned his head and glanced out of the corner of his eye at the charred forest not far behind him.

Upon seeing it, he still couldn't help but shiver.

He was lucky; the flames hadn't reached him, staying a full hundred meters away.

But even with a hundred meters of distance, he almost thought he had accidentally fallen into a boiling furnace.

"Anyway, when I go back, I'll tell the organization that I'm not staying in the outskirts of Grenource anymore. Let whoever wants to stay in this shitty place, stay!"

After cursing again, he speed up by a few points, and before long, he disappeared into the forest.
